When placing a call it doesn't ring and I can't hear person I'm calling. Speaker mode works fine. Help???

I have had this issue before and I noticed that my phone thought there was headphones plugged in! When you turn your volume up or down, if it says "headphones" then you have the same problem! I just plug some earphones in and take them out to make my phone realize they aren't plugged in anymore. Super annoying! Must be something wrong with the headphone jack.

I am also having this problem and it's frustrating. The only "solution" is tapping speaker on and off. I know it's NOT a "mute" problem, since it also occurs while using the included earphones. In addition, while on this supposedly "mute" situation, I can hear my own echo, which is REALLY annoying. Same thing occurs while using earphones. Please Apple, contract better manufacturers and hire better QA inspectors. Thanks!

Yes I found the same. The problem is random. Yesterday I made 7 calls with no problems then it did it again. I hear my own voice in the earpiece, the other person cannot hear me.

When I dial now I can tell if its going to happen, a discrete, no echo and it connects easily, otherwise I tap 'speaker' wait until I hear the other phone ringing and come off speaker.

I'm tempted to take it back but what if I get one that is even worse?

This is ridiculous. I bought it 2 weeks ago so its not from the initial batch of 4S.

I am experiencing this same problem; except I have had my iPhone since March. I saw another post that suggested turning "hearing aid" on under general settings. My iPhone doesnt have this option.

I updated the iCloud software over a week ago, and multiple resets and restores does not fix it.

Any tips?

but make sure that you haven't accidently pressed the "mute" key!
