RAM oh my god !!!!

I have 2 X 256 meg Samsung and 2 X 256 Kingston in my G5 Dual 1.8 (8 RAM slots).

I have tried to increase the memory by adding 2 X 512 meg (Kingston similar to the 256 meg that I already have).

The 256 meg are KVR400X64C3A/256, the 512 meg that I tried to add are KVR400X64C3A/512.

Do not work, I still see 1 Gig in about my mac.

I tried to put only the 2 512 meg. Mac did not start.

What is going wrong ?

Dual G5 Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Assuming you're putting them in the correct slots, there's a chance the new RAM is defective. It happens.

Is there a pair of slots that must be filled first in my G5 ?

I've tried in two different pair of slots and didn't work.

The only difference that i can see between the 256 meg and the 512 meg are:

-The 256 meg has 8 chips on only one side

-The 512 meg has 16 chips (8 on each side).

I'm not sure exactly which model you have, the following might help (make sure it matches the model you're using):

I knew that they had to be paired but with your sketch I have realized that they were uncorrectly paired (wrong slot).

It works fine now.
