Are multiple browser profiles possible in Safari?

What I'd like to do is have multiple profiles in Safari. Basically I'd select my personal profile and it would load my personal bookmarks and cookies. Select my work profile and it loads the work stuff. Basically allows you to goto sites you have personal and work accounts on without having to logout of the one account and in with the other.

I know it can be done in FF but it requires a bunch of command line garbage to make it happen and other crap. Chrome can do it too but you have to create an AppleScript that you launch every time you run the app and it allows you to select the profile you want on launch. I'm not looking to use either of those browsers and I'd much rather have a simple drop down menu option or something to switch between the two. I understand that Opera may have something like this but once again I don't want to use Opera.

I'm almost 100% certain such a thing doesn't exist but I wanted to make sure no one knows of some special app that would allow me to do so in Safari?

If the only issue is that you need separate bookmarks, then I'd suggest creating multiple folders. My husband and I each have our own set of bookmarks for our separate interests - one folder with his name, one with mine. You can easily create sub-folders as well to organize/categorize your bookmarks. Works really well for me.

We're also set up as separate users, but since he's usually signed in and we use the same applications I typically just stay in "his" Safari browser and save "my" bookmarks in "my" folders.

The only inconvenience to this (so far) is that I need to import bookmarks from "his" Safari browser into "my" Safari browser when I sign in as myself. An extra bit of housekeeping. But given that I typically use Chrome as my browser, and I already have to import Safari bookmarks to Chrome, it's not that big a deal to me.

I totally agree with others, however, that Apple needs to modernize Safari to allow for multiple browser profiles. Chrome is SO much better than Apple when it comes to this sort of thing! Apple updates these days seem to emphasize integration across Apple devices at the expense of the many who use one Apple device only. So Mac users with Android phones, Windows laptops, etc. are SOL. For that matter, iPhone users with Windows PCs etc are also SOL.

In general I find it frustrating how little customizing Apple allows. I'm a recent refugee from the Windows PC world (operating system froze and couldn't be thawed, so I finally bit the bullet and got an iMac. From what I've seen online so far, it appears you need to learn Unix so you can write Terminal commands in order to (maybe) do things that should be menu options in the first place. If I'm missing the obvious -- always possible for a newbie like myself -- please feel free to tell me what I'm missing. :-)
