RAM issues - printtool is out of hand

I've been noticing issues with my memory. Activity monitor shows the 'printtool' process to be taking up a huge chunk of RAM. Right now it's at 800+ MB, for no good reason. (I'm not printing anything.) The process takes up more and more RAM until I kill it. Killing it works temporarily, but it always comes back. I'm looking for a permanent solution.

The parent process is launchd, and this process will run indefinitely until I stop it. I've seen it exceed 1GB of memory before. I've got 4GB in total, Macbook Pro late 2008. I've seen the problem in Snow Leopard as well as in Lion, though it did seem to go away for a while before cropping up again recently.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

"Killing" the "Smart Panel" process was good enough for me. No deletion or re-installation is necessary.

It was helpful for me to find the link to "Smart Panel" here, that gave me the idea.

This problem has been driving me mad for days. Just deleted Smart Panel and it seems to have resolved the problem.

I couldn't find "Smart Panel" using spotlight - I eventually realised it was named "S panel"

Hi, I had the same problem, now it's OK by killing the "smart" ⚠ panel.

I killed it, but I don't know how to install the app:

if I go to

library/printers/Spane/Samsung/iRemover.app,

nothing happens on the screen.

However, may I suggest that these Samsung drivers work OK with AirPrint Activator 2.2b5 (to which I have no affiliation whatsoever). This handy and free tool allows you to Air-Print via iPhone / iPad without using the horrible Samsung Mobile Print Application.
