Portuguese vs Portuguese (Portugal): This is disgusting!

I've just discovered recently that I had my iPhone showing me some Brazilian Portuguese terms and I couldn't understand why.

That's when I went to the language settings and found out that Apple completly redefined how to refer to the Portuguese language and the Brazilian variation of the same language.

It disgusts me that they refer to "Portuguese" for the Brazilian variation and "Portuguese (Portugal)" to the original/origin of the language.

I'm pretty sure this can only be a mistake and will be solved on the next iOS release.

iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.2

For the life of me, I can't figure out why this is "disgusting" or even matters. My primary language is one with numerous variants. I don't really care how it's designated as long as I can figure out which one I want. However, if you really want Apple to know how you feel, submit your feedback using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

Best of luck.

You are right!

"disgusting" is a strong word and it does not really represents waht I wanted to share, but I'm not a native English speaking person and had diffuiculty finding the right term. What I meant is "shocking".

For me, a native Portuguese speaker is shocking that Apple is the only major company that mentions the two variations of the language this way.

We all know there's an "spelling agreement" for the Portuguese language, but that agreements does not change the words used by the various countries, it only changes the way to write some of the words. There will always be, at least, two variants of Portugues, being that the origin is in Portugal, and that's why I think it's shocking the way Apple lists them.

Again: escuse me for the "disgusting" part.

I would like to ask Apple to always use as default the Portuguese from Brazil version on all its software and hardware. The Portuguese from Brazil has a lot of differences from the Portuguese from Portugal version, and it would be obvious that Apple should cater for its customers. Most of us are in Brazil, and it does not make any sense to use a version that most of us, Portuguese speaking customers, have difficulties in understanding. That, as well as always offering a Portuguese from Portugal version to its customers, is the obvious thing to do.

As to Mr Woonderm00n's assertion about the Portuguese from Portugal being the 'right' version, that really is an interesting debate. Try asking someone in Brazil to activate the 'autoclisma'. By the way, I simply love reading Saramago.

Cheers to all.

Off course that's what happened. It doesn't make it right nevertheless.

You really believe that this is an issue of right or wrong?

I am shocked that you gave this enough thought and time to actually type your first post.

This really seems like a non-issue.

Not sure why this matters at all.

Sorry
