Home sharing will NOT allow sharing.

@blametheadmin - I forgot to mention one other setup on the router - I turned on UPNP.

I have shut down iTunes and rebooted both PC's and all seems AOK but I share your scepticism that this will keep working 😉 All I can say for now is that I have the sharing working on iTunes on both PC's and managed to manually synchronise the libraries between the 2 PC's and then get the files onto my iPhone. Not bad for a day's work....

I am now away from the other PC for the next 3 or 4 days so we'll see what happens when I get back.

I have had the same problem since I can't remember, then what I did was went into my (wireless) router and went into my DHCP Reservation list. This is where you see the list of all the computers, ipads, ipods, etc are assigned their respective IP addresses. If you save each of them permanently, then it will continuely just keep using that IP address. I saved my iMac and Macbook pro their IP address as well as my iPhone's and iPod's IP address, now I have had my iTunes home sharing on for 7 days now. (Keep in mind you still have to keep iTunes open). I hope this works for everyone else. Let me know if this works for you.

Does this still exist? I went to "Accounts" and ITunes in the cloud only has a Learn more link and when you do that it requires you to purchase a subscription. Are you saying that the only way to get homeshare to work is to purchase the ITunes in the Cloud?

@DukerMac, Home Sharing still exists and you don't require a subscription in order to use it, just a lot of luck 😎, ain't that right Apple? .....Silence

@blamethe admin - Have to admit that after 22 years of using and promoting Mac's I am most disappointed. Mountain Lion OSX made a lot of things not work anymore. Is it just a coincidence that Steve Jobs wasn't around when this was released. No warning that old power mac software wouldn't work (I had Appleworks, Quicken, and MS office that all don't work now) My little 19.99 upgrade so far cost me 49.99 for a new version of quicken, still deciding what to do about MS Office and Apple works, not to mention this ITunes fiasco.

It seems to have changed the way Airport works. I think the issue may be that I connect to internet using my computer, then sharing the internet with the built in Wireless, which is how I connect my ATV. At this point I can get everything to work on my ATV, except . . . my music on ITunes. Netflix, Movies, You Tube etc . . . all work.

I have issues with the wired connections for some reason. I gave up on iTunes Home Sharing because it's supposed to be a straight forward and it's not.

I've seen one post that recommends getting wireless internet router, instead of wired. Does that not work either? I am beginning to suspect a "conspiracy" (oh how I hate that idea) to sell ITunes match subscriptions!

Actually, I mentioned that somewhere in this forum. It's probably more profitable to force users into iTunes Match than to get Home Sharing to "just work".

Home Sharing works perfectly as adbertised on my machines.

I did check for Wifi interference and have reset my network router. So I am sorry it is not working for you guys but it does work for others

I have to agree with Steve Taylor, Home Sharing works perfectly for me and all my devices.

I'm running a mixed wired/wireless network with both desktop (PowerPC and Intel) and mobile devices running a variety of OS versions from 10.5.x for the PowerPC with iTunes 9.x to the current OS and iTunes and Apple TV.

Home Sharing has also always worked on any other machine and network I've set it up on for friends and family. Again, running countless wired/wireless networks and various OS's and mixtures of desktop, mobile devices and Apple TV.

I'm sorry if some of you are having problems. If I could I would come out to all your homes and solve your problems for you but as it is you will need to diagnose your difficulties on your own from hints gleaned from these posts.

Also, if you are having difficulty with Home Sharing don't pay for iTunes Match thinking that it is some kind of Apple conspiracy to get you to pay for a service to get things to work. YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED to find out that it will not solve your problem. Home Sharing is about much more than the narrow service that iTunes Match addresses. Home Sharing is about making available ALL your media on your network not just music.

The conspiracy thing is just a joke 😉. That iTunes Home Sharing has issues is true. To some it works and to others it doesn't. In the end it's up to the user to adopt it or drop it. I chose the latter because some days it would work and suddenly stop and I didn't have the patience to keep signing out and in again every time I wanted to share content.

Yes, the "conspiracy" was a joke, I hope. However, I have usually been able to resolve issues after using Macs for 22 years. Everything was working fine . . . until I installed OSX Lion a few days ago. My old setup, where I have my internet connected to my 2009 IMac 21 by ethernet and Apple TV connected by wireless by sharing my internet over wireless airport on my mac. I can get all internet services, but my Apple TV2 Homeshare only intermittently works.(sometimes I can get one song out of it then it hangs. Sometimes it will show the list, and will even show a song has changed, but no sound, usually just the rotating wheel) (I have all updated software installed.))

I have tried dozens of combinations of settings in the advanced section, but most just made it worse. (OH and I did also get an IPhone3 that finds the wireless OK, but other than that I don't have a lot of complications or added wireless network components)

Currently, I have: WiFi:on WEP security with password ( this worked and ATV found and connected)

On Network advanced: WiFi set to remember networks, but change and turning on or off requires administrator,

On TCP/IP IP4 set to configure using DHCP (an address of 169.254 etc set with a subnet set.(no DHCP client ID set)

IP6 set to Auto (no setting came up)

DNS tab: all blank

WINS: showing a net bios name of 96-41-128-55 and "Workgroup", no Wins servers showing.

No 802.1x profile shown

Proxies: none checked except at bottom Use Passive FTP Mode(PASV)

Hardware tab: shows a mac address and set to configure automatic. MTU (gray) at Standard (1500)

So if anyone can tell me what I should be doing, I would appreciate it.

DukerMac, sharing an internet connection using the Mac's internal "Internet Sharing" facility isn't ideal and may be the cause of your problems. I highly suggest getting a dedicated router like a Apple AirPort.

I understand that it use to work before you updated to Lion and expecting it to work after the update is reasonable but Apple may have made some fundmental changes to the system that don't work like they use to in previous systems.

Questions and some things you might want to try.

Was the update to Lion over top of the previous system or was it a clean install? I find clean installs to be less troublesome than upgrades over an existing install.

The Mac that is providing the "Internet Sharing" facility can not be allowed to sleep. Check the settings in the "Energy Saver" System Preference to make sure the NOTHING is set to go to sleep.

The OSX Lion install was over the old system, and not new and it was indeed messy.

Unfortunately, I did not have big enough back up disk, and could not move everything off I needed to save.

I should get a bigger back up disk to start.

Didn't want to have to get a wireless router, but that was my next move.

And Yes, I did know about having my computer set to "never" for sleep, though I do let the display sleep, just not the computer.

More and newer hardware . . .

I'm having same issue.

Home Sharing used to work fine. At some point, it stopped.

In my home there are 2 iPhones, 2 iPads and an Apple TV. All devices work and sync fine on the network.

Airplay works on all devices to the Apple TV. No problems.

iTunes can play to the Apple TV using Airplay.

Remote App on each device controls Apple TV just fine.

However, I can no longer access my Library from any device using remote. Home Sharing is turned on on all devices and the Apple TV. It is also turned on in iTunes. None-the-less it still says "iTunes is not paired with any remotes" in Preferences>Devices.

I tried to deauthorize and authorize my computer. Did not solve anything.

Running Windows 7 and iTunes 11.0.1.12

All iOS devices are updated to latest FW.

Any suggestions would be greatly apprciated. Thanks.
