So, this started acting wonky again for me... along with iTunes not remembering my account info and settings.

I seemed to have solved that by killing and the reinstalling a download that was hung up. I saw this in a post on here. I don't know why it matterd, but since then it has been fine.

Airplay started to act up again. So, I updated my Netgear router and brought it to brand new status. After I reloaded my settings again, it has been working fine since Thanksgiving. We'll see if it lasts.

We have two windows 8.1 computers in the house, and when we got the second one in November, I started using Home Sharing, using the router that we use for internet connection. I had absolutely no problems getting it set up and working correctly. I loved it!

Then, a couple weeks ago, I got a notice on one of the computers that a new version of iTunes was available. I had already inistalled 11.1.5.5 on one computer -- the two computers did not have the same version of iTunes, but I had NO problems using Home Sharing. So I went ahead and clicked on the link to install the latest version on the second computer. So now they both have 11.1.5.5, and I cannot use Home Sharing any more. I have turned it off on both computers, turned it back on, turned my router off and back on, done a ping test which shows that both computers are connected to the router, etc -- essentially everything that I read on the troubleshooting page.

The column on the left side of the screen does not show any options for home sharing -- the dropdown menu under "File" shows that it is turned on on both computers, but there is no other indication of anything to access it.

I have spent more hours unsuccessfully trying to resolve this issue than I care to count up. It probably wouldn't be as frustrating if I hadn't been able to use Home Sharing without ANY problems before I upgraded to the latest version on the second computer. I would love to be able to just go back to the older version if iTunes so that I could have my Home Sharing back.

marvinfromia, have you tried disabling the firewall on both computers? If not, try it. Do it on both computers at the same time and see if Home Sharing starts working again. If it does then turn the firewall back on on each computer one at a time testing each time.

You said you went through the suggestions on the troubleshooting page, is the page you went through.

That was the page I went through.

Given the "to do" list I have ahead of my for other things that have higher priority, I've decided to simply give up on the Home Sharing and just plug my iPod into my computer -- it has most of what I previously accessed from the other computer before I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes.

If I'd just done that n the first place, I could have saved myself a lot of time and frustration.

Thanks for your effort to help.

Problems with Home Sharing to iPads etc

The only solution I've found is to sign out of Home Sharing on your iPad/iPhone:

Settings > Music – Tap on your Apple ID under Home Sharing and tap Sign Out.

Now go to either the Music or Videos app (whichever one you're using) and leave it open for a few seconds. This will disconnect the app from Home Sharing. NOTE: It may seem a little pointless to do this, but trust me it's an important step.

Go back to Settings > Music – Under Home Sharing and enter your Apple ID credentials.

Go back to the Music/Videos app and try to access your shared library again. That's it, however this isn't a permanent fix and any issues you had will probably start

I have another question about the 90 days...I have home sharing with my daughter...we both have the I-phone 5c. I shared my material with her, and she was able to download 1 album...when she tried to download another, she got a message that indicated she had already downloaded 1 album to her device, and would have to wait 90 days to download another...

That's not really sharing....can you explain why this occurred and how we can fix it?

Home sharing will NOT allow sharing.
