That "little square" is a header & repeating on each page is what headers & footers are for. Go to the view menu & chose show layout. You need to be in the big text area in a word processing document for the body of text.

You can choose to have the first page be different using the section tab of the layout inspector. First page is different only applies per section. Unlike other word processors I've used, Pages doesn't automatically suppress the headers & footers on the first page of a section. If you entered data in the header or footer on the first page, that will be displayed & suppressed on the remainder. To suppress it on the first page, the information must be entered on the second or later page.

If you only want your title on the first page, I suggest using a text box rather than the header.

Hi iger,

What do you mean by "the default language"?

Are you speaking of the text that is shown when you open a template containing text boxes, like this sample from the Informal Newsletter template?

That's "placeholder text", and it's there to show what the layout will look like when it's filled with text. It's in Latin mostly to allow you to concentrate on what the text looks like, rather than what it says.

To replace it with your own text (in whatever language you choose, Click in the box:

Note that no matter where you click, all of the placeholder text is highlighted, and with your first keystroke (or with a paste of text copied from somewhere else), the palceholder is replaced by what you type (or paste), in whatever language you type it:

iger,

The text field at the top of the page, more a rectangle than a square, is called the Page Header, and repeating on every page is what it is supposed to do. If you don't want it to repeat on every page, you have two options:

1. Don't type anything in that area

2. Go to the Layout Inspector, Section Tab and select the option "First Page is Different and then delete the Title from the second page.

Jerry

Thanks!! and just one more question if you know

Im writing a doc in spanish, and ive read that the only way to permanently change the language is in the settings menu. I did. I restarted the application and everything changed, except that the only thing that didn't change was the default language. Any words on that?
