Connecting an Epson Stylus NX420

I hate having to ask for help on this but I have been trying to connect this new printer for over an hour. I wanted to set it up with a USB cable but the printer did not appear as an option under System Preferences. I'm currently not at home so I don't want to set it up with the network in the house I'm visiting. The driver download page in Mac support says the drivers should download automatically but how can that happen if it's not installed on my Macbook Air? Feeling confused!

Yes, I thought I could download the correct driver from either the Mac or Epson website. All the info indicates that the Airbook I have this and this printer should be compitable. That is why I'm so confused.

Eventually I did find the right driver in the Epson driver section on the Mac pages.Connection was not exactly as they said but I worked it out and then installed the Epson software update and it's working fine with Lion, so far.
