Is there a method to move your cursor to the left without using the backspace button?

Is there a method to move your cursor to the left without using the backspace button? I some times need to move left and find it very difficult to put the cursor where I want it. I am forced to use the backspace key which deletes the text. I wish the iPAD had the 4 arrow keys like a standard keyboard has to move to a specific point in the text. Thanks.

To position the insertion point (there isn't a cursor), if you press and hold the screen with your finger then after a second or two you should get a magnifying glass appear on the screen which should help you re-position in the insertion point.

Thanks. I had used it as a magnifying glass before but now realize it is perfect to position the insertion point.
