I got error message 4001 when trying to upload music to imatch

what can I do

100% this. Tried Option/Shift and turn off Match many times as well as everything else. Waiting around an hour while it is supposedly sending information to Apple before giving me the same error is a pain, if it isn't going to work tell me straight away! I assume if it was to succeed it would be quick.

I wish I hadn't bothered. £21.99 wasted on a poor service.

Smaffie had exactly the same problem. Take an hour to complete step one and get error code 4001 and once got 4002. As with you the most annoying thing is the time it takes to tell me it's not worked! Tried everything Signing out/in turning match on/off while holding shift key. If you find a solution let me know.

Still not working for me, and I've been trying almost continuously. Whenever I see the error 4001 message again I close it, Option-click Turn off Match, turn it back on, and let it do its thing again which for me takes about half an hour. Even tried in the middle of the night when I happened to wake up for a few minutes.


Just tried again now on my work PC, which has a completely empty iTunes library. Even with zero songs to match I got the same error, so obviously it's nothing to do with a problem in my library at home. I'll give a couple more tries when I get home this evening then contact support. And if they can't solve the problem promptly I'm going to demand a refund. I'm not paying for a service that I can't even set up.

So I noticed I am getting some albums on my Apple TV under the iMatch screen even though my mac wont seem to ever get past the 4001 error.


Looking at what was available I realized it had synced my iPad. So somehow iMatch is working on my iPad but not my mac it SEEMS. Its hard to tell since the iPad doesnt have the sync to iMatch function it just has an on and off and it does it secretly in the background it seems?


Either way I really need to be able to sync my Mac Pro so I still need a fix to this error Apple!

It's a complete waste of time logging it with Support but it's all we can do I suppose, and hope the numbers make someone notice. Certainly it's a major forum topic. I was polite and specified my problem exactly and so far have had two responses full of vague links about setting up a firewall and disabling AV software. Thanks! I'd forgotten how utterly frustrating Apple stuff is when it doesn't work.


Regarding a refund I've mentioned it twice and it's been ignored both times, I have no idea how you'd go about that. Certainly under UK law I believe that selling me something that doesn't work and providing literally no assistance to fix, repair or refund it is a violation of the Sale of Goods Act but how I go about enforcing this against a brick wall of polite Indian English I have no idea.

Awesome, it's working for me now too. So there must have just been some technical issues for a few days.


It's a shame that those who contacted support weren't actually told anything about there being issues and just try again later, rather than only saying exactly what their pre-determined scripts told them to say. Too bad the support staff's scripts don't seem to include any "check with other departments to see if there's a known problem" step.


Step 2 of the process sure is going slow... It zipped through the first few thousand tracks that were purchased through iTunes but the remaining 5,000 or so are going at a rate of about 1 or 2 per second. This could take a while...

I finally, having tried all the methods tried and failed, and have only now managed to get to the stage shown in Mr Jingles post having downloaded a new album and right clicked on it to add the new album to the iCloud. Suddenly it seemed to have worked! This is after 4 resynchs of my iTunes library because my iPad cleared the library when I turned I match on.


The origin of this forum from the original post dates back to november 2011 ( for the beta version) but we are still experiencing problems over 6 months later with no guidance but to refer to this forum!!!!


I also had problems getting my iPad (purchased from apple) and again had to resort to forums to try and find the solution.


Hopefully someone from apple is reviewing this forum. I have the following requests:

1) be open about the problems and put the information on your website which is easily accessible. Most of our frustration is the lack of answers

2) listen to your users and fix the problems

What is the freakin' problem, Apple?!?


Turned off Match on ALL computers. Changed credit card on MacBook Pro (where master library is in iTunes). Turned Match off and on TEN TIMES. Ran Match THIRTY TIMES. Used the Alt key to turn off Match. Logged out of the store and back in FIVE TIMES. Rebooted FIVE TIMES.

hello I had this same error and I have now fixed it after extensive research. You need to go to this link and follow exactly except if you have a pc instead of mac instead of options hold down the shift key. It works. I did this and boom my problem solved. It seems that you are pulling old cache and that is why you are continually getting this message instead of it re trying and the shift key holding helps the cache to get cleared. here is the link. it works let me know please.

After weeks of searching, this solution was right for me too. A few of my music files had "error" next to them, so I trashed them and my iTunes Match is working again. Finally! So to recap, I did the command-j and allowed iCloud Status to be shown and clicked the header to sort them according to that category. I then highlighted a few hundred at a time and right clicked and then clicked Add to iCloud. Most of the time it would work great but a few batches I found some corrupt files with error messages. That's how I knew which ones to trash. Thanks for the tip!
