    I was finally able to fix it by selecting a single track, right-clicking and sending it to match and the rest followed! The Option Key method never worked for me.

    Neither of the two tricks mentioned work for me. I've tried numerous times too, just in case.

    Only bought iTunes Match last night and haven't managed to get past step 1 because of this error. Worried I have wasted my money. Have tried all the tricks here (on PC) but nothing works.

    Same problem with me. I just purchased iMatch subscription last night. Ive tried all the fixes I could find online and none of them work (option click, genius update, re-authorize, single track upload, etc.)

     

    I tried turning iMatch on on a different computer with a different OS and still the same problem. I wish apple would address this problem as it appears to have been going on for some time now and hasnt been resolved.

    Same 4001 problem here. Contacted Apple Support and got this response:

     

     

    To resolve this error, press and hold the Option key (on a Mac) or the Shift key (on a PC) while selecting Turn Off iTunes Match from the Store menu. 

     

    Then, select Turn On iTunes Match from the Store menu and go ahead with enrolling in iTunes Match.

    It's unfortunate that the option click doesnt work for some of us. It sounds like it fixed things for a lot of people. Well here is to hoping if enough of us post our issue they will dedicate some people to this problem.

     

    This error appears to have been going on for months for users so I cant imagine Apple has invested any significant time in trying to fix it

    Option click doing nothing for me either other than taking 80 minutes to go through Step 1 and fail again. iTunes Match added to the list of things I should have researched more fully before buying.

     

    What an astonishingly poor service considering how many months it's been available. Fails for a significant percentage of users, gives no explanation for why, still no fix after months, and support staff recommend people come here for advice. Amazing.

    I agree, I assumed since it was an apple product I didnt need to worry about it working. Im shocked they have a service so prominantly advertised in iTunes and apple TV that so broken.

     

    Please supply us a proper fix!

    100% this. Tried Option/Shift and turn off Match many times as well as everything else. Waiting around an hour while it is supposedly sending information to Apple before giving me the same error is a pain, if it isn't going to work tell me straight away! I assume if it was to succeed it would be quick.

    I wish I hadn't bothered. £21.99 wasted on a poor service.

    Smaffie had exactly the same problem. Take an hour to complete step one and get error code 4001 and once got 4002. As with you the most annoying thing is the time it takes to tell me it's not worked! Tried everything Signing out/in turning match on/off while holding shift key. If you find a solution let me know.

    Same issue as all the aove. Nothing seems to work in getting rid of the error and the support team seems to have no clue in solving the same

    New day, same error...  Nothing seems to work. 

     

    It's like torture to watch the little blue bar slowly slide to the right hoping that it will get to the end with no problem, but then it produces that wonderful error...

    Still not working for me, and I've been trying almost continuously. Whenever I see the error 4001 message again I close it, Option-click Turn off Match, turn it back on, and let it do its thing again which for me takes about half an hour. Even tried in the middle of the night when I happened to wake up for a few minutes.

     

    Just tried again now on my work PC, which has a completely empty iTunes library. Even with zero songs to match I got the same error, so obviously it's nothing to do with a problem in my library at home. I'll give a couple more tries when I get home this evening then contact support. And if they can't solve the problem promptly I'm going to demand a refund. I'm not paying for a service that I can't even set up.
