Chirping noise coming from iPad 2

Just recently I have noticed that my iPad 2 is emitting a fairly loud chirping noise. Sounds like a bird or crickett. The sound is emitted in two discreet bursts. You can easily hear it across a fair sized room. It is unlike the high chirping noise I have read about, and heard, on the iphone which is a more prolonged single high pitched noise. I know the noise occurs when the iPad is not plugged in to its AC adaptor but is sufficiently charged. It may also occur when plugged in. Not sure. The noise is very internmittent and is not predictable. For example... it does not happen everytime I use a certain app or enter my password.

I love that movie and Liam Neeson was so good in that role ....

I am no grand master but I will toss in my two cents on this ....I can think of no security issue reason why you can't list the apps that have you downloaded. You guys can play - "I'll show you mine if you show me yours". Seriously though, just use common sense (and I'm sure that you will) if you think any security issue could be compromised, just don't list that app. However, I just can't think of any scenario where listing your apps would be a security concern.

Unless you have some sort of naughty apps (if they even exist at all) or apps that you would be ashamed to make public, that you don't want your significant others, or bosses, or kids, or whatever, to know that you have - go ahead and share. I know I will breathless with anticipation until I can see the list of apps for myself.

As Yoda would say, "Boring, I am." "Naughty Apps, I do not have." I will compile a list of the most recent downloads. I haven't even used a good number of them yet. Still, there is evil somewhere in those apps. Beware.

Demo, I loved "Taken" also and Neeson was totally awesome in that role. And you ARE a Grand Master. Don't even try to trick me.

Easily fooled, I am not.

This is a bit off topic, but I need some advice at the starter of this thread. A lot of the comments by others, while not giving the actual answer, have been VERY helpful in zeroing in on a possible solution. But, for the life of me I don't see where I can award a "helpful" recognition to those comments. All I see is an icon for "Correct Answer" next to each post. I am on my MacBook Pro right now...so this is not because I am on my iPad 2. Does anyone know what I am not doing to get the "Helpful" icon next to each post to give due recognition?

Thanks.

Well, you know what they say...

Before you can learn to love others you have to learn to love yourself. 😁

Seriously, I screwed up on that one. As I mentioned earlier, I obviously clicked on "helpful" without realizing it. It was stupid, careless, and a waste-you can't give yourself points for being "helpful"-I'm still stuck in the basement with 5 measley points despite inappropriately awarding myself those "helpful" commendations. Those comments I clicked on were certainly not "helpful." They actually were questions I was posing. And, by doing so, I took away the option of bestowing credit to others where credit was due. I believe there have been more than 2 helpful comments in this thread. I think Apple needs to loosen the noose on allowing the starter of a thread to award helpful credit to OTHERS.

Below is a link to a list of my Apps. It is missing "apps" I created from web pages added to my Home Screen. If we draw a blank with these then I will search out those.

A couple points:

1) I share an Apple Account with my daughter and we sync her apps to the iPad 2 so she can use the device. So, some of these apps are totally unfamiliar to me. I quickly scanned them to see if there were any suspicious looking settings. I couldn't find any.

2) I decided to include ALL my apps. It was just going to be too time consuming to select out the most recent downloads. I have a lot of Astronomy, Physics, Science, and Graphing/Calculator Apps. As soon as I download them I place them in folders I created for these topics. It would have been really painful to look through all the download dates and find the most recent ones.

OK, here's the link to the list of apps.

Mr. Luigi ... I'm sure we all appreciate your wanting to award points for the help, but quit beating yourself up over it.

Now we have another issue. The apps that you posted are showing up as blue squares with a question mark inside of the squares on the iPad and on my Mac so there is a problem with how you save the pictures or the screenshot or whatever it is that you posted in your reply. so we still have no idea what apps you have on the iPad.

😟

Hi Demo,

Posting all the apps turned out to be a little more challenging than I anticipated. I finally tried uploading the .pdf file composed of all the screen shots I took (.png files) to a public dropbox site. I tried it on my wife's MacBook Pro and it seems to be working. But, it's not working on yours? Hm...

Maybe you got to the post before I edited it and used the dropbox strategy?

However, if you clicked on the link to the dropbox site and it is showing blue with question marks please let me know. I'll have to figure out something else then.

1) I set the time manually to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp. (Just checking that the Crickett had not gone south for the winter).

2) Deleted Weatherbug from my iPad. Reset time manually to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp.

Darn.

3) Checked list of apps in Settings. Saw that Weatherbug was still listed. Hm...Went back to my Weather App folder. Saw Weatherbug. It was the iPhone version. Must have missed it the first time when I deleted the iPad version. Deleted the iPhone version. Reset time to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp.

Darn.

4) Reset the iPad according to instructions specified earlier in the thread.

Reset time to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp

Darn.

5) It does not appear to be either version of Weatherbug.

Hi Chris CA,

I would normally agree, but I am part of a committee at school where we examine apps for all types of reasons...clarity of UI, breath of functionality, use in grade levels Pre-School through 12th grade, etc. We offer a computer science course at the Upper School designed to teach students how to write apps. We use the apps in my iPad, and others, as a way to demonstrate what makes for a good app and what makes for a bad app. Anyway, blah, blah, blah...I have a lot of apps only for the reasons above...thus the reason for owning the 64GB model.

Interestingly, I did delete ALL my timer/alarm apps when this mysterious behavior surfaced. I thought they were a prime suspect. Disappointingly, the chirping continued.

But, I understand...the number of apps complicates this search and seizure operation significantly. I am really hoping the fellow who posted that he had the same double chip every hour on the hour from 9 am to 6 pm returns to the thread and gets a chance to look at my list and compare. That should significanly narrow down the list of suspects.

11:00 am. Chirp Chirp. Ha! Ha! That cracks me up to have it chirp while commenting in a thread on the very issue. It's taunting me.

I apologize for asking for help in a situation where I have dramatically complicated things by having so many apps. But, I think you understand I am stuck. I am sure this is not endearing me to the participants in this tread who are really trying to help me figure out where the source of the problem lies.

BTW, your idea of doing a backup and then starting from scratch has not been forgotten. If nothing else, if would verify that it is an app if the chirping went away when all the apps were gone (except for native apps). Right?

Mr. Luigi ... I know that I am very happy that Greg was finally able to help you solve this little riddle. Thank you for the kind words - it is a pleasue to participate in this forum and the greatest reward is always resolution to the OP's issue.

That being said - award Gswarthout for the correct answer! Bada Bing ... (from another iTalian American)

Ah but it is not over. This morning my ipad2 is making this chirping sound. I have read the thread and found the solution but, I don't have your technical expertise so I can't work out how to go about searching for notifications in apps... Interestingly I haven't added an app in weeks and only have a few apps loaded. This is the first time I have heard the chirping sound. Came on about 4:30am. Any help would be much appreciated. Remember I am a novice so you will have to speak s l o w l y. Thanks

Mr Luigi

Firstly I wish I had selected a cool name like yours when registering on this forum, but I digress.

Because of the pain you had to endure - my solution was easy. I followed your advice and lo if was one of my Aps. It was wanting me to rate the App, and obviously thought this important enough to send out at chirping SOS at 4:30 am. Anyway I deleted the App ( how's that for feedback) and since then silence...yay!

Now while the early morning wake up call was a tad inconvenient, it meant I was able to read a terrific thread which made it almost worthwhile.

Now, back to my wonderfully silent iPad
