Chirping noise coming from iPad 2

Just recently I have noticed that my iPad 2 is emitting a fairly loud chirping noise. Sounds like a bird or crickett. The sound is emitted in two discreet bursts. You can easily hear it across a fair sized room. It is unlike the high chirping noise I have read about, and heard, on the iphone which is a more prolonged single high pitched noise. I know the noise occurs when the iPad is not plugged in to its AC adaptor but is sufficiently charged. It may also occur when plugged in. Not sure. The noise is very internmittent and is not predictable. For example... it does not happen everytime I use a certain app or enter my password.

Hi Demo,

Posting all the apps turned out to be a little more challenging than I anticipated. I finally tried uploading the .pdf file composed of all the screen shots I took (.png files) to a public dropbox site. I tried it on my wife's MacBook Pro and it seems to be working. But, it's not working on yours? Hm...

Maybe you got to the post before I edited it and used the dropbox strategy?

However, if you clicked on the link to the dropbox site and it is showing blue with question marks please let me know. I'll have to figure out something else then.

1) I set the time manually to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp. (Just checking that the Crickett had not gone south for the winter).

2) Deleted Weatherbug from my iPad. Reset time manually to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp.

Darn.

3) Checked list of apps in Settings. Saw that Weatherbug was still listed. Hm...Went back to my Weather App folder. Saw Weatherbug. It was the iPhone version. Must have missed it the first time when I deleted the iPad version. Deleted the iPhone version. Reset time to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp.

Darn.

4) Reset the iPad according to instructions specified earlier in the thread.

Reset time to 8:59 am. Waited a minute. Double Chirp

Darn.

5) It does not appear to be either version of Weatherbug.

Hi Chris CA,

I would normally agree, but I am part of a committee at school where we examine apps for all types of reasons...clarity of UI, breath of functionality, use in grade levels Pre-School through 12th grade, etc. We offer a computer science course at the Upper School designed to teach students how to write apps. We use the apps in my iPad, and others, as a way to demonstrate what makes for a good app and what makes for a bad app. Anyway, blah, blah, blah...I have a lot of apps only for the reasons above...thus the reason for owning the 64GB model.

Interestingly, I did delete ALL my timer/alarm apps when this mysterious behavior surfaced. I thought they were a prime suspect. Disappointingly, the chirping continued.

But, I understand...the number of apps complicates this search and seizure operation significantly. I am really hoping the fellow who posted that he had the same double chip every hour on the hour from 9 am to 6 pm returns to the thread and gets a chance to look at my list and compare. That should significanly narrow down the list of suspects.

11:00 am. Chirp Chirp. Ha! Ha! That cracks me up to have it chirp while commenting in a thread on the very issue. It's taunting me.

I apologize for asking for help in a situation where I have dramatically complicated things by having so many apps. But, I think you understand I am stuck. I am sure this is not endearing me to the participants in this tread who are really trying to help me figure out where the source of the problem lies.

BTW, your idea of doing a backup and then starting from scratch has not been forgotten. If nothing else, if would verify that it is an app if the chirping went away when all the apps were gone (except for native apps). Right?

Dear GSwarthout

Sweet Mother of Pearl!

This is the best Apple Day of my life!

Almu : Alarm with music GOLD is absolutely the culprit. As you said, the settings for that Evil App from Hades include an hour alarm. By default!, the developer/seller (nowApp) has set it to "ON." The developer has also chosen 9 AM to 6 PM (9:00 to 18:00) as default values for the hours. The developer has also chosen "Cricket" as the default psycho sound. For any future readers of this thread, its link to the App Store is:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/almu-alarm-with-music-gold/id463103928?mt=8

Even though, as you say again, it was totally obvious that this is the culprit once you go into the app, I did manually set my time to 4:59 PM after turning the hourly Cricket sound to off. 5:00 PM hit the screen. NO DOUBLE CHICKET CHIRP! This is the guy.

I guess this puts an end to this thread. Hm...I'm feeling kinda sad. 😢

I'm going to miss all my helpful Thread Peeps. Demo 🙂, Chris CA 🙂, paulcb 🙂 and all the others.

Forgive me for perhaps going over the top here, but I want to say something.

I read and particapte in a fair amount of tech forums. I enjoy connecting with people who have the same non-mainstream interests as me. But, on a lot of these forums there is often that troller who is no fun. Their contributions to the threads are not helpful. They are scarcastic and condescending and they bring out the worst in the other forum participants. I don't know why some people feel compelled to behave this way and I don't want to give it a lot of thought. But, I do know this. Our thread had none of this. Everyone tried to be helpful. Everyone was respectful. And even though we all came to this thread with different levels of expertise no one took advantage of that to massage their egos with comments that were disrespectful. Of course, I love that we finally found the solution. I am a physicist turned teacher and I love to solve a puzzle. The nastier the puzzle the better as far as I am concerned. But, I actually enjoyed the helpful, good natured interaction among the participants more. So, thanks to all for being model citizens of this thread. It was a blast

Bye, Mr. Luigi

Ah but it is not over. This morning my ipad2 is making this chirping sound. I have read the thread and found the solution but, I don't have your technical expertise so I can't work out how to go about searching for notifications in apps... Interestingly I haven't added an app in weeks and only have a few apps loaded. This is the first time I have heard the chirping sound. Came on about 4:30am. Any help would be much appreciated. Remember I am a novice so you will have to speak s l o w l y. Thanks
