But the instruction manual will be intelligible, albeit with additional U's
Great whoop! So you will know how to run the software that is worthless. Isn't that nice? I think NOT!

Well, I won't but others may
ClamXav - the only one worth bothering with. Effective and free (unless you choose to donate out of sheer gratitude)
Disclaimer: no, I'm NOT connected to the developer. It's just what you should all have. While you're at it, get a copy of OnyX too for system maintenance - a must with Lion (and also free).
You may find this User Tip on Viruses, Trojan Detection and Removal, as well as general Internet Security and Privacy, may answer many of your concerns:
I use AVAST! Mac Beta, which will be free after the beta cycle.

I'm unclear on how you have looked for the Preferences.dylib file, and whether you have used EasyFind correctly. Just to make sure, in the Terminal, paste the following command:
ls -al ~/Library/Preferences/*.dylib
If you are infected, you'll see a line listing the malicious file. If not, you'll see an error saying "No such file or directory."
I got "No such file or directory".
I also used EasyFind (with its default settings but with "Invisible Files and Folders" checked) to look for Linc Davis's 5 files and nothing was found.
Is this good news for me?
That means you don't have this particular trojan installed, which is good.
Whew! Thanks.
Others on this discussion thread can now do the same check.
I find it ironic that there's a ClamAV "crew" here on the Apple forums who all use the same tactics: claim Macs don't need security, rip on Intego, and then sell ClamAV as a 'least bad' option. LOL.
Who discovered the malware that is being discussed in this forum thread? Intego. They are by far the most credible, reliable, and best antivirus software company (or "Anti-Malware) for the Mac.
I know because I tried ClamXav after being misinformed that is was "the only one worth bothering with." The problem is the product didn't meet my expectations. It slowed my computer down when running scans, and it's definitions were slower to update than the product I installed after trying ClamAv. I couldn't even use my computer when running a scan.
What happened after I switched to VirusBarrier? I don't even notice it's on in the background unless it finds a threat, even when running scans. Its a good product.
In any case, this is just my observation as a casual user on these forums. I'm just not sure why there's a team of people following Thomas A Reed who seem to constantly employ distrustworthy tactics by spreading false accusations about one product so as to try and "sell" others on the idea of using another product. Just be honest and truthful, it'll make the Apple forums a better place for everyone...

Barry is right. STAY AWAY FROM ALL ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE. It will only mess up your system.

Don't drag my name into your rant. I do not claim any personal experience with VirusBarrier, so the most I ever say about it is that people have reported having problems with it, which you cannot claim is not true. If you have a problem with something I have actually said, say so, but otherwise leave me out of it.
