InDesign under Rosetta

Hello All,

I've had a moderately stress-free transition to my new iMac (a few probs with quicktime and an HP2600n printer). I installed Adobe CS 2 and everything seemed OK - PS and Illustrator so far seem fine and relatively snappy. Unfortunately I'm having a bit of trouble with InDesign.

When setting the default measurement in preferences to mm (or any other) the computer adds a ridiculous amount of decimal points to all measurements in the application.

For example if I add a text box and enter a width value of 3.5mm, InDesign changes it to 3.5005005005005003mm.

I've never had this issue in 4 years of everyday use

Could anyone with the CS Suite installed on an Intel Mac see if they can replicate this problem? I'd like to work out whether it's happening exclusively under Rosetta. I've checked the Adobe forums and there's nothing there so I'm hoping you guys could shed a little light.

Many thanks

T

Tom:

Can't help directly, but wonder if it's a question of preferences that rely on CS2's custom prefs pane, which is a known "won't work" with Rosetta. Does your problem crop up with all units, not just mm?

However, can I pick your brain a bit? Our newspaper was right on the verge of buying some new iMacs when the Intel announcement came. We want to run CS2 on them and along with your report (thank you) I'm seeing more evidence that it can work OK.

BUT, the unanswered questions seem to revolve around printers and scanners. Any wisdom to pass along?

Many thanks,

Hi Dan,

Do you mean CS2's Version Cue pref pane? If so, I don't think it could be that as I was aware of the 'won't work' issues and purposely didn't install Version Cue. I don't think CS2 has any other preference panes. The problem is with all units of measurement and I've searched high and low for anything about decimal points etc.

With ref to CS2 in general, like I said earlier all appears fine so far (apart from Indesign). I was pleasantly surprised by photoshop and ran the radial blur test on the horse image in 59 seconds! It all seems quick at the mo but I have installed maximum RAM and my last Mac was a 1Ghz iMac!

I had a probelm printing to my hp2600n yesterday (it's driver was not in the list of supported printers). I reinstalled the driver this morning and it seems to be working OK. The hp2600 icon doesn't appear in the dock or in the list of printers but thats only a cosmetic thing. I've yet to try my scanner - it's about 5 years old so I'm not too confident. Hopefully I'll be able to use Vue Scan with it.

Please everyone let me know your CS2 feedback/issues

Cheers

Hi Jamie,

Glad I'm not alone!!

Have you had any joy with Adobe or have they said something along the lines of "We don't support InDesign under Rosetta...."

Please let me know how you get on - it's driving me nuts too!

Ive still got my PPC system running so I'm going to save an Indesign document on the intel send it to the PPC and see if it opens with the same measurement bug. I'll let you know how I get on.....

Many people believe Adobe won't release universal
software until CS3 which could be anytime this year...

That's esp frustrating since we have just gone through trying to get our 5 machines synced to CS2.
I suppose we could just buy a G5 iMac in the interim and wait for the Intel versions of the Mac tower. (which I suppose will be called the MacPro, or ProMac, or NikNakPaddyMac.)

We just hate buying "old" tech on purpose.
