Apple TV 2 will not play purchased videos from an authorized computer

I have been trying all night to get purchased videos from an authorized computer play on my Apple TV 2. My computer is authorized and I have not reached my limit of authorized computers. I even went as far as to completly reset all the settings on my Apple TV; the music plays fine and it can list all my availible video content but as soon as I select a video of any kind it gives me the following error: Authorization is Required. You must authorize your computer with the account used to purchased the content. I am going crazy, I can access the same videos from my Home Sharing on my iPhone or from another computer using iTunes. I have tried deauthorizing the computer several times with no luck. Any suggestions?

I agree with everyone on this. I think that we all understand that technical issues are unavoidable at some point. However, some notification (website posting, alert message) of this problem would have been very helpful. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to troubleshoot the problem before realizing it was on their end.

Just to add another post to this ongoing issue....I downloaded the REMOTE app to my i-phone and changed the settings on my ATV2 to allow for AIRPLAY. The system worked flawlessly and allowed me to watch any movie in my library without the "Authorization" error message. However, later this evening I went to watch a movie and it no longer worked on either of my ATV2's...the error message had returned. I sure hope that Apple gets this resolved in short order.

Yes, Apple is clearly having an issue with their authorization servers. I wouldn't be surprised if this is related to their updating server software related to their iCloud rollout in the near future. Until they fix it, you CAN play your purchased iTunes movies directly from iTunes, then AirPlay to the AppleTV 2 by clicking on the AirPlay icon in the bottom control area of the window.

Looks like this problem has been fixed, at least for me. I didn't do anything different than any of you. Authorized, de-authorized, restored Apple TV software, logged in, logged out. Nothing worked. None of my purchased videos played on my Apple TV last night. But this morning, everything's working. Seemed as if this was an Apple problem that they must have solved overnight. Fingers are crossed.

Would one of those who posted about using Airplay to stream a movie to the ATV2 with iphone remote be kind enough to explain the steps in detail to accomplish this? Where is remote? Does the movie need to actually be on your ipad or iphone ? Thanks in advance.

I hadn't tried this before but I got it to work last night. You need the Apple Remote on your iPad or iPhone. (Make sure iTunes is open on your computer.) Go into Settings in the Remote and choose your iTunes library. Make sure Home Sharing is On and Airplay is checked next to your computer and Apple TV. Click Done. Click More > TV Shows (or Movies). When you start to play your show, make sure you click the triangle to send it to your AppleTV.

Interesting testing this morning. I have 2 ATV2. One hardwired one via wireless. I have no firewalls inside my network so both go through the very same gateway and IP policies to Apple.

It would appear that wireless latency is just enough that it can't set the time via the iTunes account but can play music so I know I'm connected to the local iTunes machine.

Although this second ATV has always been a little slow, almost if there is a defect, yet they both have the same firmware/iOS etc.

I can watch downstairs no problems but use Airplay upstairs only. Weird.

Hi Tincha --- I am able to control the ATV2 movie with my iphone using the Remote app. I don't think that I am however engaging Airplay. Since Apple appears to have solved the authorization problem. I would like to understand the steps to use Airplay. I have the Remote paired and Airplay and Home Sharing enabled on ATV. I open the Remote app on my iphone and get the Settings menu which shows my itunes library and the (2) Apple TV's available, and tells me to choose a library. I select my library, choose a movie and it tells me that the movie is playing on my Apple TV, which has the check mark next to it. I do not see an Airplay icon anywhere on my iphone, which makes me think that Airplay is not engaged. Can you tell me which step or steps that I am missing? Thank you again.

Hi Jawone

There are a few ways to use AirPlay, when in remote on your iPhone you are controlling the computer and it is air playing from there to appletv.

If you have a film on your phone, start film and press AirPlay icon then stream from phone to appletv.

Or, turn on homesharing on phone and watch any of your films on phone, press AirPlay button to stream to appletv.

Hope this helps.
