Thunderbolt Display will not wake up after sleep!!!!!!

It seems like a lot of us are having an issue with the THUNDERBOLT DISPLAY opening after it goes to sleep. I have the display connected to a new mac mini server and I can not get it to wake up after it goes to sleep unless I unplug the power or the thunderbolt cable and then plug it back in.

I've been refferring to these discussion boards following repeated issues with Thuderbolt display not being recognised as connected by either Air or new MBP. I tried many suggestions in the discussion groups, to no consistent improvement, but have finally resolved my issues with a new Thunderbolt cable (€50!) connecting the thuderbolt output on back of screen to laptop. Strangely, the original cable begins to work fine after 'waking the screen'. Frustrating stuff here from Apple,

I'm experiencing the same problem. Have tried everything on these threads to no avail. I am using a 2011 MBP in "clamshell" mode. Most of the time, the TBD awakes from sleep. But, at least once per day, I'm forced to unplug the TB cable and plug it back in to awake the TBD. Now joy on the upgrade to 10.8.3. Luckily, the TBD is new, and I have an APP. I will keep asking for new ones until it is fixed! :-)

The same problem started with me after I installed 10.8.3. I have a Retina connected over Thunderbolt to a Apple Cinema HD. When I wake the computer by hitting the space bar the Retina LCD wakes up but the Cinema HD does not. I have to unplug and plug in the TB cable again.

I am using a 3rd party longer TB cable though. I unfortuntely don't have an OEM TB cable I can try (at least not yet).

I had the same issue as everyone else. Got a brand new ATD, hooked up to my Early 2011 MBP 15". Once the MBP went into sleep and I tried to wake it up, only the MBP will wake up. The ATD just showed black screen.

Called Apple Support today and they had me do the NVRAM and SMC set up. And it supposed to have fixed the issue. However I am not holding my breathe. I doubt it will last for long. The representative told me to monitor it for a few days and if it returns, take the display to the nearest Apple Store.

edorah,

Try keeping your keyboard to the Mac and trash the following plist or preference files.

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist

Don't worry, your system will generate new plist files to replace the old ones.

Please let us know if this works.

Hi Mirone,

Thanks for the steps. I am yet to follow the step but in between I downloaded a firmware update for my ATD and since then things are back to normal. ATD wakes up every single time. Its been a week. I will give it a couple of weeks more before I declare victory. But if the problem re-surfaces I will follow your steps.

Thanks,

Well, my TBD gave up the ghost yesterday and would not awake no matter what. I know that my MBP video output was working as I hooked it up to an old cinema display I had. One call to Applecare, Genius bar appointment this AM (and the TBD was still deader than a door nail...). The Apple Store has by TBD and are replacing the power supply, logic board and cable. Let's see if that does the trick. Glad I purchased the AppleCare although it is still under the original warranty. Great to have a local Apple Store!
