Numlock disables spacebar?

I've migrated my old powerbook onto my new powerbook only to discover that the numlock function now disables the spacebar completely when it is in use. This did not happen on my old powerbook - I run a couple of programs that specifically utilize the number keys and the space bar. Is there a setting I haven't set properly? What is it called and where is it hidden? I don't think it's in the applications I'm using, so is it possible that Apple changed the way Numlock functions in 10.4.4?

Seems that my space bar is working with numlock on using my three year old 15" Powerbook G4. I have not been able to duplicate this problem and I do not recall having it under earlier releases of OS X, either. This only goes to show that the problem is not universal, but it also means that, because I can't reproduce the problem that I can't offer any suggestions, either.
