How do I change the DNS for iOS?

I am plagued by the Lion/iOS 4.3.5 WAN sluggishness.

Previously it mainly affected my Lion machines which I changed to an open DNS and that fixed them.

Today it affected my iPod Touch. Everything was up and working but the iPod stubbornly showed "domain name doesn't exist" messages.

Is there a way to change the DNS on a 4.3.5 iPod in the same way that I changed the DNS on the Mac network?

I don't understand IP entirely but presumably the iPod is still using the Apple DNS settings which seem to cause this problem.

Your iPod is going to use whatever DNS servers are setup/configured with the router/modem you are connected to. To manually change your iPod's DNS Servers, head to Settings -> Wi-fi and tap the > next to your network. Then scroll down to DNS and manually enter in the desired DNS servers.

So does the IP address called "DNS" in the iOS Wi-Fi preferences mean the same as the one called "DNS server" in Lion preferences: Network/Advanced/DNS?

I guess it does but my knowledge of DNS is thin.
