Receiving attachments as multipart/mixed or plain text

Interesting. I'm using IMAP mailboxes of my own creation at DH, and I've never used their webmail, to be honest - all my mail is IMAP using Mail as client. Are you suggesting they're routing all their mail through Gmail servers, whether or not I want to or know about it? I certainly agree about Gmail being an authority unto themselves, and I've had problems with a GMail account on Mail on iOS, so it's not impossible if that's the case....

Absolutely. Email looks like Lamborghini's and Audi's on the outside, all shiny and HTMLy, but inside the entire thing is driven by a coal-powered Yugo and a 14.4 modem. I know this problem that I'm having is peeling back the covers on exactly these types of problems.

Anyway, no, I'm definitely not using Gmail at DH. Good suggestion though.

OK, back to this again. I'm getting a little closer to understanding the issue. I took that sender out of the Rule which automatically moved his emails to an IMAP mailbox, and the problem stopped - I have received quite a few emails from him with .docx, .xml and .jpg attachments, without problem. BUT, when Imoved these emails from the Inbox - where the attachments were correctly displayed and readable - to the IMAP mailbox, the attachments got borked and turned into plain text **** again. Finally, Rebuilding that mailbox cured the problem and returned the attachments to normal again.

What on earth is going on?

My settings are exactly the same (except the IDLE command flag is greyed out and I can't change it - it's set to be ON). What I meant was that, yes, all my mailboxes are IMAP. I have an Inbox, then various folders, e.g. Project, Personal, etc. All my mailboxes on the server reside at root and none have subfolders. I recieved the message into the Inbox, then moved it (from within Mail) to a folder, i.e. another mailbox on the same server, for storage.

Still having the problem that moving the mail with attachment to a mailbox results, often, in that attachment reverting to plain text. This is after updating to 10.7.3.

FWIW I'm still having this problem - but, there are condtions to it. It only seems to happen on IMAP mailboxes that a Rule directs email into automatically upon receipt. And it only happens when the mailbox gets 'big'. How big, I don't know, but I started a project recently, and created a new mailbox folder for it. For the first few hundred emails with attachments, not a siingle problem. But suddenly this week it started up again, and now every attachment arrives as plaintext, requiring me to Rebuild the mailbox to be able to read it.
