Import an M4R file to Ringtones

For what ever reason I can see the file in my Song List on my computer, if I search on it in My Music. After I drag it to my desktop, rename it as a m4r file and the icon changes to Ringtone.....I can't get it to my Ringtone Libratry. I've tried click and Drag, Add to Library, jsut about everything anyone has suggested on the Forums and nothing. If I click on it it opens and plays in iTunes, but I can only find it in My Music. I have copied it on my IPhone 4 as a Song...but can't get it to Ringtones...it's 29.5 seconds long I've tried everything, but as iTunes should automatically place it in my Ringtone Library it doesn't. H E L P! ! !

I had the same problem. I could find my m4r "ringtone" in the "recently added" Tab. Here's how you do it properly:

Choose a song, convert it to 44,100khz 16bit Wave!!!! (thats the key) I used the SWITCH CONVERTER, which I cannot find in the AppStore now, but I'm sure any other will do just fine. So, convert the song from your iTunes Libary into 44,100 khz, 16bit. (See program preferences for the output format).

My Ringtone maker did not accept *.wav so I had to convert the file to *.mp3 before I could use it. Sync the phone so the song is on it. Open the Ringtone maker and edit the song as desired. Save/export it (I simply save the ringtone file on my desktop)

If you now drag the *.m4r file into iTunes, it will appear in the Ringtones tab.

Hey Everyone,

I was having difficulities moving my .m4r file into the tones folder too... Apparently all you need to do is delete the shortened version of the file out of your library... I did this and it worked straight away.

I followed these steps -

Hope it helps.

What are you all doing?

Don't need to import or export anything. Don't need to fiddle with or customise anything

Don't need RingMaker. Played with it. Edit the sound.

No music on my little phone. It's not used for that. I randomly found a tiny sound I like which is perfect. Made it an m4r file it is the only sound on the phone. There it is. Look at the Music. There it is. It plays. It does. Done.Apple's closed list of dismal sound. You have to be a 120-year-old granny to like that. It renders the phone useless. Cannot answer any call. All I want is that sound I have and can play. I want the phone to make that sound when I get a call. The time to smash the phone.

Can you see? It's not possible. The file has a name. It's not available in the list. Where's the hardware on the chip which can play a sound, but cannot do that associated with phone function to serve the needs to combine the sound with an event such as a phone call. Allocate. Huh??

Even had same issue, the best thing is as you( adityanyana, said , copy the files to the directory c: or d, or e, where Itunes is installed .

for mac users, follow the step,

after converting files, Go to finder-> Music- in search type "iTunes"- then click "Automatically Add to iTunes "and paste the file which u had copied. it wel get added to tones .
