I did this successfully through gmail.
1. Set up a gmail account.
2. Sync Addressbook with gmail contacts. (Address Book --> Preferences --> Accounts "Sync with Google" press configure
3. Set up gmail as IMAP on Apple mail (Mail --> Preferences --> Accounts "+" at bottom -- enter info. When you do this you will notice two inboxes, Junk etc... don't wory this will get taken care of later.
4. Create identical folders for IMAP Gmail as for POP except for Inbox, Sent, Junk, Trash
5. In mail drag messages from POP folders to new IMAP folders (inbox to inbox etc... this will upload your messages to google server)
6. Log into gmail account and set up POP retrieval for your other email accounts
a. Settings (gear symbol upper right hand corner) --> Accounts and import --> Checking Mail Using POP3 ---> Add POP3 Email account
7. Turn off Junk mail filtering in your other POP3 accounts
8. Gmail --> Settings --> Lables --> Unchek all of the "Sustem Lables" except Spam and Trash
9. Back in Apple Mail delete your POP accounts Preferences --> Accounts
10. Apple Mail Preferences --> Accounts --> Mailbox Behaviors
a. Uncheck Drafts
b. Uncheck Notes
c. Uncheck Sent
d. Check Junk
e. Check Trash
11. In Apple Mail under the Gmail drop down menu you will notice your IMAP Mailboxes inbox, Spam, Trash etc to get these to be Apple Mail's Mailboxes of the same name highlight the IMAP mailbox --> Menu --> Mailbox --> Use This Mailbox For (down at bottom) --> Select the corresponding mailbox in Apple Mail.
12. Activate gmail on your Android device
Now you have completly integrate apple mail, android gmail, and contacts. When you add a contact on your phone it will sync to addressbook. Email can be read and sent from either computer or android and will be reflected as read etc...
It worked pretty well for me.
