RIP Steve Jobs

Just want to pass on my best wishes to the Apple family. Steve Jobs made my life and the life of others immeasurably better. A true visionary. We won't see his like in our lifetime.

Dear Steve: I never got to know you. As close as I ever came was writing to you a couple of times in the past year. Boy where to start...I started using Apple products as my first ever computer experience, ever. It was 1987 and I had just started an undergraduate program at a local institute of technology. Then the computer was called a Macintosh; a square little box with a handle on the back that came in an off-white and allowed for networking and for desktop publishing! I still have that machine and the follow-up upgrade of that machine. Steve, I never really knew any other computer in my life, not even for thirty seconds, that's because I didn't have to. You made it possible for me and countless other artists around the world to be creative without so much as a care about the inner working of the devices we needed in order to succeed. From the Apple IIE, to the Macintosh, to the Newton (precursor to the iPhone and iPad), to the iPhone, laptops, software delivery, product innovation, and simple good taste; you have unarguably touched all of our lives. My photographic career today would be nothing without you and your hard work and unmatched creativity. You will be missed forever, you are missed right now. My condolences to your family in the wake of their loss. May they feel the love an entire world had for you and your drive and innovation which touched all of our lives now and for a lifetime to come. Rest in peace my friend.---Manuel Rivera-Ortiz, International Photographer, and grateful Apple user.

Steve Jobs made the world a better place by creating beautiful things. He inspired us all with his commitment to excellence. He lived through his darkest hours fully committed to the dream which guided him in his brightest hours. His genius has made it easier for many of us to get on the information highway. You have invested yourself not only in Apple but in the human family. Your life lives on in Apple and in us. May you rest in peace.

I met Steve Jobs once at Cupertino, at 1 Infinity Drive... He was in his stereotypical black turtleneck, and jeans. This was just before Tiger came out, we nearly bumped into each other, I was studying to be a Mac Genius, he was working on getting Tiger out on time...It was almost 80, and he wasn't even sweating.

We were told if we ever spoke to him, to never say we were in retail. He asked me who I was, I said my name, he asked where I was from, I said Mass originally, he asked where do I work in Apple.

I said the Quicktime Development Team. He got a quirky smirk on his face, and said better get back to work, you're late on production. I nodded, and went my way.

At the Cupertino complex there is a brick oven for pizza for everyone, and a Sushi restaurant just for him. If I remember, his favorite was the California Roll.

Apple has lost a visionary, and this country has lost an icon... I know Apple will survive without him, but, Steve Jobs was Apple...

Those who work, or have worked for Apple, or use a Mac or Apple product have all a part of him there... it will be interesting to see what happens from now on.

I was told that at the time Steve Jobs didn't have such a high value upon the retail division. The way we were treated to the new toys showed it to some extent as well. Bascally we were told that there was a chance that we would be fired on the spot.

If it was true, I don't know but I didn't want to take the chance. He was stressed out, and the last thing I wanted to do was to annoy him.

The fact the Apple Stores are doing great is good, but back then they were still an experament and well you don't anger the golden goose.

Thank you Steve for your vision, brilliant innovations and for changing my life as well as many others.

I write this with uncontrollable tears on 1 of 9 Apple products in our home, the beautiful iPad2.

Hours of my life were spent watching and enjoying your presence, character and charisma on stage during Keynotes and I can't express how much I will miss you.

My heart and prayers goes out to Steve's family as well as the whole Apple family. There is no doubt in my mind that Apple will continue to change the world with forward thinking and make Steve proud.

Here's to you, incomperable, Steve Jobs. God's speed.
