How do I setup my Yamaha Motif XS as a midi controller in Garageband 11

I have a Yamaha Motif XS keyboard synthesizer that I would like to setup as my midi controller in Garageband. I have downloaded the drivers that I need directly from Yamaha. Now I would like to know how to get Garageband to recognize the keyboard. In addition, I would like to know if I will be able to use the sounds on my synthesizer in garageband as midi data? At the moment I connect my synthesizer via an audio interface to garageban, but i would like to use these same sounds as midi. I was told on the Yamaha forum that garageband needs to be ASIO compatable in order for this to work. Any suggestions?

You should just be able to hook the Motif up via USB or the MIDI out option via a MIDI interface. With the volume turned down on the Motif, GB should recognize basic functions like notes/keys, pitch bend, mod wheel and sustain pedal.

You cannot control the Motif sounds via GB using MIDI. Your only option is to record the Audio out of the motif into GB on a real instrument track.
