Resolution issues with two HP LP3065 monitors on Macpro

Hi, I have a macpro with radeon hd5770 graphics card. i'm trying to use two HP LP3065 30" monitors but can only get full resolution - 2560x1600 - on the one plugged into dvi port. the monitor plugged into the minidisplay port shows max 1280x800. Stopped by the apple store and they suggested I run both monitors into the two minidisplay ports on the graphics card but that made it worse (both monitors show max 1280x800 resolution)

Is there a solution?

You can convert the first Mini DisplayPort to a single-Link DVI with a simple adapter such as the US$30 Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter (which may be an ACTIVE adapter, but only supports Single-Link). It probably uses the internal power lead on the Interface to re-drive the signals. This works up to about 1920 wide. Beyond that, Dual-Link DVI (with an additional set of three data lines) is required.

The Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter costs US$100, is an ACTIVE adapter, and has an additional USB cable to pick up power from a USB port. Third-party ACTIVE adapters that do this job properly are comparably epensive.

When using BOTH Mini DisplayPorts to support DVI adapters, (single OR Dual Link) the card requires so much additional power to re-drive the signals at DVI levels that TWO Dual-Link adapters must be used, even if neither display requires Dual Link.
