Lion Crashes - Often

For the record, I am running the most recent version of Reason - 6.0.1 -

I update everything daily, so it's all up to date.

I will test this crash with the dongle removed. If it does it again, I'll come back here and post the same issue.

Lets not forget my TRACK PAD was mentioned in that command I ran - with Apple drivers 🙂

Yes, I have an apogee duet (first Gen) they just came out with the drivers for OSX LION as you will see on that site you sent me, that I visited.

This is the unit I have

They released this driver Aug 31st - 2011

I tested last night and it didn't do it, after going into sleep after 15 min, but the time I left it for 1 hour, it froze. Very strange indeed.

I'm a techy by trade and will keep isolating this until I find the culprit.

I am doubting that all the other posts for this issue, do not include everyone using an apogee duet and reason though, this is too wide spread of a problem, that exhibits the same characterstics of the symtoms I had, exactly like others here.

Sleep mode engages - then unresponsive... or are all these customer's all fixed now after a recent update on OSX?

Placed a support inquiry with Propellorhead for Code Meter PACE drivers to see if they know of any issues.

What about the track pad issue? If the phone wasn't closeby, then what caused this?

I have this issue too. I do believe it is related to the Graphics Card, as indeed the rest of the system is working and you can ssh into the machine.

I believe it is similar to problems described in this thread, and a solution as posted here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2384136?start=405&tstart=0

although I did not have these problems with Snow Leopard, but do have them with Lion.

GPU Debug issue solved? (Sort of... )

The problem is GPU Hardware acceleration. That's it.

Here is a workaround that will work for any modern Mac and OS

If you experience these freezes when running a Mozilla browser you can turn off hardware acclelleration in Preferences / Advanced / General. Just de-select "Use hardware acceleration when available" and restart ytour browser.

Pages will load slower but the freezes *will stop*

If Aperture is the trigger, you'll have to look into turning GPU hardware acceleration off in that.

Of course this is only a workaround.

Ultimately the problem is either the grpahics cards (of which there is a very wide variety affected) or the Apple graphics firmware and/or drivers.

Please record your expereiences with this workaround below. Maybe we can build evidence of a wider issue and get some action from Apple.

Obviously you would need to re-enable hardware acceleration in your apps to see if that works for you.
