FCP 10 stabilization makes clips worse! Why?

I've imported from my camera video without transcoding it. Simply analyzed for stability and rolling shutter. I've then created a new project using FCP X's default settings (ProRes 422), as well as trying ProRes 4444, ProRes HQ and Uncompressed 10-bit video, to no avail. In every case, after I apply stabilization to any clip, the clips get jittery and much worse than the original clips. What's the issue and how can I fix i?. Also, before I downloaded the latest update to FCP X I had no issue like this. Stabilization using the default settings (PRORes 422) worked perfect.

Depends on the type of clip.

FCP X needs static objects in the clip to be able to stabilise them.

If you are trying to stabilise a panned or zoomed shot, for instance, it will struggle.

I suggest you do not analyse for stabilization on import, but stabilize only the clips, or bits of clips, you think need it afterwards. The algorithm seems unable to cope reliably with a large volume of varied material. I found the difference in effectiveness very marked.

Thanks for replying. Only problem is that earlier I did import my clips without analyzing for stability during the import process...what happened is that after I analyized the stability in the Event Library, and dragged my clips into the time line, my Stabilization and Rolling Shutter buttons no longer appeared in the Inspector. Thus I was able to analyize them in the Event library (by right clicking on each clip) but couldn't activate the Stabilization (ie. not buttons to activiated with).

Interestinly, I had no such issues stabizing any clips prior to downloading FCP X's first software upgrade.
