With Finder active, click View --> Show Status Bar.
It is funny that there is a thread here having the best answer as going into View Options and opening a secondary screen... anyways, here you go.

From Help...
Choose View > Show View Options, and then try adjusting the sliders, selecting the checkboxes and radio buttons, and choosing from the menus. The changes take effect immediately, so you can see the results of your choices.

Makes sense, since that slider seems to be a 'physical' component of that window element.
I had not noticed its absence, since almost from the start of using Lion I had turned on (set to 'show') the Status Bar along with the Path Bar and the Toolbar.

I just got it! I never saw the mini slider on the right of status bar. 😐
Me too. Like today's cryptic puzzle...I finally figured out what they were talking about.
Main reason I never saw that — I don't ever use icon view!!
