iPod touch will not sync with iTunes 10.5
When I connect the device iTunes shows my iPod on the left, but all I get is a spinning beachball and I can't click anything in iTunes.

When I connect the device iTunes shows my iPod on the left, but all I get is a spinning beachball and I can't click anything in iTunes.
PS - It's a 4th gen iPod Touch
PPS: I waited, and now it works.
Yep, it hangs and you have to wait. It will unlock eventually.
Smooth Apple real smooth. I really hope this doesn't negativly impact the iOS5 update.
(OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 10.5, iPod Touch 3rd Gen 4.3.5)
Having the same issue with a Gen 1 iPod Touch and (believe it or not) and eMac. Just connected it again and am waiting to see what happens based on what I've read here. Will update if the fix works for me.
Not for me. If I wait, the OS quits the frozen iTunes app and offers to send Apple a crash report.
Ok, the work-around works! It took about 20 minutes to completely sync (8G Touch) after getting the beach ball.
Ditto here.iOS 10.5 crashes with Ipod 3rd gen (I've tried 3 of them) and Iphone 3G. I've already re-installed 10.5 three times now and nothings seems to help. Guess I'll have to wait for a fix? BTW I'm on a PC using Vista.
My problem is that Itune closes completely...so waiting won't work for me. The program never seems to come back up. Any other ideas?
Possible Solution : Download full 10.5 installer
Something that I had learned the hard way in the past,
don't use software update to update iTunes. Instead,
download the full installer and install from that. I just
did that and iTunes starts up just fine, all my stuff is there,
and my iPod 3G synced up just as it normally did under
10.4.x. Advantage is that the full install overwrites
everything where as the updute mostly just changes what is
needed and sometimes misses old baggage.
The additional advantage, if you save the installer, if something
does go awry with the next update, you can always roll
back.
p.s. Also says I can update to iOS 5. Will wait on that
though.
Where do I find the installer?
On the downloads page.
Didn't find "installer" but downloaded both 32/64 bit versions for Vista.
Still having problems.
Have determined that problem occurs when I'm trying to transfer prior purchases from ipod (or iphone) to Itunes. Itunes closes down just as transfer starts. I've been searching for a help but still can't figure a way around this. I can't update my ipod touch 3g or iphone 3g until I get these "prior purchase" transferred from the ipod/iphone to my itunes library. Any other ideas? Thanks.
Experienced the same Problem: OS X 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5, iPoad Touch 2nd Gen with latest available Firmware. Re-installing iTunes did *NOT* solve the problem for me.
Question to the guys who waited for 20-30 minutes untill the device finally sycned: is the next sync working as expected or does it take the same amount of time after this "initial" sync?
Issue #1:
Same for me... initially iTunes would display the window nor would it close. Had to do a "force quit". Then, when opened, it "hung" or "froze", showing the pinwheel cursor. No progress messages to indicate what was going on. I waited 20-30 minutes and everything worked fine after that. Well, almost.
Issue #2:
Once #1 was fixed, I had the same issue that was noted here, where the iPhone appears to be over capacity. The "other" category shows waaay to much space used. It is incorrect. Following the procedures there fixes it.
After the initial eternity of waiting it did seem to work fine. I then started clean up a bunch of other stuff, seem to work fine after that. The whole thing is very unusua.
Patience seems to be the virtue that wins out here.
