iPod touch will not sync with iTunes 10.5

When I connect the device iTunes shows my iPod on the left, but all I get is a spinning beachball and I can't click anything in iTunes.

Possible Solution : Download full 10.5 installer

Something that I had learned the hard way in the past,

don't use software update to update iTunes. Instead,

download the full installer and install from that. I just

did that and iTunes starts up just fine, all my stuff is there,

and my iPod 3G synced up just as it normally did under

10.4.x. Advantage is that the full install overwrites

everything where as the updute mostly just changes what is

needed and sometimes misses old baggage.

The additional advantage, if you save the installer, if something

does go awry with the next update, you can always roll

back.

p.s. Also says I can update to iOS 5. Will wait on that

though.

Didn't find "installer" but downloaded both 32/64 bit versions for Vista.

Still having problems.

Have determined that problem occurs when I'm trying to transfer prior purchases from ipod (or iphone) to Itunes. Itunes closes down just as transfer starts. I've been searching for a help but still can't figure a way around this. I can't update my ipod touch 3g or iphone 3g until I get these "prior purchase" transferred from the ipod/iphone to my itunes library. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Experienced the same Problem: OS X 10.7.2, iTunes 10.5, iPoad Touch 2nd Gen with latest available Firmware. Re-installing iTunes did *NOT* solve the problem for me.

Question to the guys who waited for 20-30 minutes untill the device finally sycned: is the next sync working as expected or does it take the same amount of time after this "initial" sync?

Issue #1:

Same for me... initially iTunes would display the window nor would it close. Had to do a "force quit". Then, when opened, it "hung" or "froze", showing the pinwheel cursor. No progress messages to indicate what was going on. I waited 20-30 minutes and everything worked fine after that. Well, almost.

Issue #2:

Once #1 was fixed, I had the same issue that was noted here, where the iPhone appears to be over capacity. The "other" category shows waaay to much space used. It is incorrect. Following the procedures there fixes it.
