Itunes 10.5 robot sound

Just updated to 10.5 getting nasty robot sound. Windows 7 SP1 SoundMax integrated digital audio. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, turned off itunes EQ, also, reset audio driver and toggled default format in audio driver. still not working. Youtube, VLC media player, and Audacity works.

I've been working on this problem for a couple of days and have a work around, but it is not pretty! I've tried everything I could think of including uninstalling using Revo Uninstaller to remove all the crud and a fresh install. I also downgraded and then upgraded again. The downgrade fixed the problem but it came back after upgrading again. I am also running WinXP as others above.

For now the only fix is to downgrade and stick with the old version. Unfortunately, the downgrade is not simple because the library file in ...My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl cannot downgrade. If you have an old backup you can use this. Otherwise you must delete it and allow iTunes to rebuild it from scratch. This means reimporting the entire music collection.

I have gon back to v 10.2.2 which I know was stable from 6 months ago...

- Uninstall iTunes

- Remove ...My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl

- Download iTunesSetup1022.exe (or another old version) from oldapps.com and install

- Run iTunes

- When the popup "A new version of iTunes is available...", check "Do not ask me again" and select "Don't Download"

- Re-import your music collection

Enjoy!

Just updated iTunes to 10.5 and have the same problem. Running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 and have tried Microsoft update to assure all updates are installed and they are. Checked for any hidden updates but found none. The ACC files are playing fine, this is only happening when I import an MP3 and try to play it, it sound like a robot singing. Tried converting the file to ACC but plays the same way. Downgrading to an older version will probably fix it but like posted above it will take a lot of work to get all of the files back since they have been associated with the new version. I tried to just uninstall the new version and install an old version but it will not start up. I hope the folks at APPLE will fix this soon and provide another update. For now I will be holding off on importing MP3's.
