How do I enable multitasking gestures in iOS 5.0 on iPad 1?

"iOS 5 includes a few new moves and shortcuts to help you get around even quicker on your iPad: Using four or five fingers, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, pinch to return to the Home screen, and swipe left or right to switch between apps."

How do I enable these gestures? I have upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPad 1 and do not see this setting in the general tab of settings.

Besides the lack of MTG really ticking me off, has anyone else noticed how much total available memory we lost when upgrading to iOS 5? I specifically wrote down what my iPad 64GB 3G had BEFORE the iOS upgrade, and now I have lost over 1 GB. I originally had 59.17 GB on v4.3.5 and now that I am on v5, I have 58.14 GB. I'm glad that I originally bought the 64 GB model, but that will make an even larger difference on the people with just a 16 GB iPad, if they also lose the same 1.04 GB like me.

I also want to put the Newsstand app in a folder. One called 'never used'.

roflmao! it is *so* true.

i didn't think of that. i just put it in with the rest of my "information" apps.

the thing is, i *can't* put it away in a folder!(?) what is up with that? the ironic and funny way of looking at it is, no apps want to "folder" with it! (lol) i amuse myself by "chasing" the other apps as i try to force newsstand on top of other app.

@GianlucaM: Woah! Go Android!!

Let apple know that feeling on their feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html (sorry for reposting it!)

To be honest I love using and developing on both platforms :) Our team has many iPad 1s -- no chance we will upgrade our iPads for 12 months -- so hopefully iPad 1 does get MTG back so we can all still use those awesome devices with the MTG convenience for a long time, and enjoy a brand new Android when we do upgrade.

Ive allready send that feeling to apple ,

But i dont care anymore steve is gone and he was the reason i loved apple , now i dont care any longer about apple.

But i dont like microsoft needer because of that little child Steve Balmer, and linux wel yeah linux is ok.

If i had the knowledge, i would now invent a new computer with a new kind of os , i would make a os that is stable like mac and windows , am not always sure or windows is stable , but anyway i would make a stable os but give my customers the choise, for example when i make a new updated os and an older computer would be to slow to run it i would not make it impossible to install that os , no i would let them if they want i would just say that it will not work as it was ment to. But anyway MTG works fine on ipad 1 so apple really loves money, its all about money, where th F*** is that love for computer technology, wel that is gone because money is want is really important.

Am sorry for my lack of english i hope it is understandble what wrote.

I have a developer account and used for a while the new gestures. I loved it. It's almost the same as using a computer with natural multitask.

Cutting this feature on iPad1 because of a political decision - yes, because technically worked like a charm on my iPad1 - is a shot in the foot. I'm in rage!

Just remembering to those Olympo guys at Apple, that several countries have huge taxation. I bought my iPad1 legally here in Brazil, back 10 months ago and I STILL PAYING IT in a monthly basis. Now I'm a beggar to you?!?!

Just because I'm not up to date with your new parafernalia?

Many Thanks!

I will remember this when I suggest friends and colleagues with the new options on the tablets market. I love to read magazines an watch videos, as the same for several people. And that. any tablet could do.

I am starting to see posts around the Internet that the iPad 1 with iOS 5 is having memory issues. There is a thread here about an Electronic Arts game that worked fine on the iPad 1 with iOS 4.3.5, but not that they guys have upgraded to iOS 5 the game drags.

MT gestures may be in the same boat, not enough memory on the iPad 1 to run iOS 5 with MTG. MTG would always have to be in memory to offer the swiping gestures instantly. That may also be why the photo editing is not available in the Photos app on iPad 1 with iOS 5, not enough memory to hold the original in memory and also a copy with the edits at the same moment.

Next week will be when writers for Wired, MacWorld , Gizmodo, Cnet, etc start getting access to their various contacts at Apple and start writing about the new iOS and the decisions behind what was implemented in which devices and I bet that is the limitation for the iPad 1, the memory necessary for some features.

How do I enable multitasking gestures in iOS 5.0 on iPad 1?
