iOS 5 wiped all my contacts. Any help?

The same thing happened to me. I upgraded to iOS 5 and lost all my contacts but if I look at Recent calls I can still see those entries and if I reply to a text msg I still can so they must all be there somewhere. I use iTunes on a MacBook Pro. After I learn how to restore them I would love the option to print them to paper or PDF

if you can see your contacts in your text messege area then its an easy fix.

1. View a recent Text Msg conversation with someone that you know is saved in your contacts.

2. Scroll to the very top and on the top right it says "Contact >"

3. Click on it and you should see the info of that person.

4. Add something to that contact, it could be anything, I added a random phone number (you can remove it later)

5. Press the back button when your done to go back to the conversation screen

MAGIC ALL YOUR CONTACTS ARE BACK

mine are not back, this has been of no help at all.

My contacts for some reason never synced with the address book app on my mac.

the folder that should contain my previous backups is empty

3 contacts were in my address book app on my mac, these there contacts were added to iCloud, and subsequently pushed to my phone overwriting everything else.

The support page about backups is all old information because the whole backup process is all on the actual device now.

every number or email address I have collected for 7 years is now gone. with no record of it ever existing.

does anyone know a legitamate solution to my problem or am I just screwed now

This simple response solved my problem. All 104 contacts are back. I will write them all down on paper now.

I'm having the exact same problem but WORSE

1) All contacts have been deleted

2) All texts have been deleted

3) All Photos + Videos are deleted

4) All Recent calls...Deleted.

I'm really frusted. I have multiple back ups but it refuses to let me back up to anything older than ios5. I backed up before the updated and it still wont let me back it up, i've tried factory reset and then back up still doesn't work. I'm getting signifiantly frustrated with this and there are definitley others going through the same thing. Hopefully someone figures this out asap.

same exact thing. if anyone has a real solution to our problem please speak up because this is gettting rediculious. I cant find any of my backups

HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.

Contacts are all there, but no longer have the ability to add contacts or edit any of the contacts.

Have two iphones one updated with no problem and have the ability to add or edit contacts, the other one

no longer can add or edit contacts. Hope someone knows what is going on with this problem.

Just go to iCloud under Settings.

Turn off.

Then.

Turn back on.

hey genius... some of us dont have any text messages, or photos, or videos, or anything!

I was also unable to modify my contacts (they were all there) after the upgrade. To fix it, I went into settings, merged Contacts with iCloud (ie, turn iCloud on for Contacts) then turned it off and keep it on the phone, of course.

this iOS 5 is ********!! it cost me all my contacts!

you can restore your iphone from a back up that you have. go to itunes and under devices you should see your iphone. Right click on your name and select restore from back up. To double check, if you are using a PC, you can go to Edit>Preferences> and select Devices and check how many back ups you have.

I have to exact same problem. everything except my apps are gone. it's so frustrating and I literally have found no answers.

i did click restore to backup but it didnt help. i chcked i cloud and its not there- my guess is i backed it up on my computer- but i can seem to find the ******* list. im using lion os x
