Problem downloading iOS 5

As I was attempting to download the new iOS 5 software I get an error message that says "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The network connection could not be established." What does this mean?

Darpan1,

First and foremost, your security software is more than likely blocking your connection. Disabling your security software doesn't really do much but waste time.

You can find more information about how security software impacts the iTunes experience here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3125

Regarding your issue:

"Error -3259"

This alert is often the result of iTunes being blocked by firewalls on the computer.

Update to the latest version of iTunes.

Try turning off your Firewall to see if the issue is resolved (this includes the built-in Firewall or a third-party Firewall such as Norton Personal Firewall, McAfee, Symantec, etc.). See iTunes for Windows: Music Sharing With Windows Internet Connection Firewall for steps if using Windows. See KB iTunes: Music Sharing does not work if Firewall is on for steps if using Mac OS X.

If there's no firewall or security software interference, try to remove proxy settings.

This error message can also mean that you have used unauthorized modification software on your iOS device (jailbreaking software)

Follow EVERY step in http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3297
