Love film on appleTv via iPad?

I'm curious on this whole subject.

Basically in the near future I was planning to get an apple tv but I would like to get myself a contract with LoveFilm for the films function. Now I know apple tv doesn't work with love film. But love film now have a streamer on the iPad.

I'm curious to see if someone has tried to stream love film to the iPad then sent it to the apple tv?

Does this make sense?

Thanks in advance.

If you got iOS 5 on your iPad and Apple TV that shouldn't be a problem. You use AirPlay Mirroring.

"Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to your HDTV via Apple TV"

No this does not work. apple TV is a waste of time. They should have BBC Iplayer and LoveFilm streaming then it would be a good investment. Using Mirroring with Apple TV and love film player does not work it puts a message on AppleTV to say so - I guess they dont want itbto work...Also LoveFilm app does not work even though AppleTV button appears - sound but no video. Come on Apple / LoveFilm / BBC !!!

I bought the iPad 2 weeks ago. I have always been a PC fan and thought i might be wasting my money. I have to say the iPad is fantastic and It does everything that i could ever have wanted and much much more. am totally hooked. Upgraded to IOS 5, bought Apple tv - bit of an issue with atv as it needs to be updated but won't do it wirelessly and you need to upgrade by tethering the atv to your pc and download upgrade via iTunes - a bug in atv 4.3I downloaded BBC I player and itv player and they stream perfectly using mirroring. You can adjust the setting on your tv with remote so that you are not looking at a small box in middle of tv. Yep, I subscribe to lovefilm and the only downside is that it will not let you mirror movies but I bet that will change soon. My biggest concern with the iPad was not having a keyboard - now I find typing on the pc keyboard so slow! I have just watched graham norton by mirroring iPad to tv and it is perfect. I bought a Philips streamium years ago and ditched it after 2 weeks because it was rubbish. Now, if sky don't enable downloading to iPad shortly I am ditching my subscription. This is the best £500 I have spent in years.

Hi Elliott

It makes perfect sense. Or so you would have thought! I have been trying to do the same thing. I can stream all other iPad content via Airplay and it works seamslessly but not so with Love Film. Once you set up Home Sharing on iTunes, an icon will appear on the Player similar to the Maximize button, you tap this and and any content automatically streams through Apple TV. this works with downloaded content on the iPad but when you do this with LoveFilm however, it only streams the audio!?

I have no explanation for this and have just emailed LoveFilm support. Iwill update you when i hear anything.

Regards

Steve

Here's the response.......

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding our new streaming app for the iPad.

Unfortunately it’s not currently possible to stream titles from the

Lovefilm iPad app to your TV via any sort of cable. This is a measure

intended to prevent copyright theft. We are however looking into ways of

making this possible and are hopeful of finding a solution.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused by this. As a

gesture of goodwill I am adding a film extra credit to your account.

This can be used for an extra dispatch from our physical catalogue.

If you should have any further queries regarding this or any other

matter, please don’t hesitate to contact us again.

So no it doesn't work for the moment but watch this space.

Cheers steve

I've just exchanged mails with Lovefilm. It seems that the app was written for iOS4 without aiplay enabled as there were concerns about security on this version by their rights holders (that would make sense as I don't think that the original BBC one allow airplay). iOS5 is considered secure and so there is no reason why an updated app would not have airplay enabled. This is in the pipeline but not released as yet. I have no idea why the audio works on an iOS5 iPad.

Perhaps surprisingly, it is not possible to stream shows and movies from the Lovefilm iPad app directly to Apple TV. You'll hear the sound on your ATV but the video will remain on the iPad.

This is a catastrophic failure on Lovefilm's part. As pointed out in the last post, Netflix has both an ATV app and streams from iPad; Lovefilm is not capable of either.

That said, Lovefilm has a vastly superior selection of things to watch and it's significantly more up to date! I struggle to find anything even remotely recent on Netflix.
