Yup. Apple seems to be aware of the issue (per other message boards). Push email is not working (under iOS5) unless the emal client is running in the background. If you close the app push stops. This affects all iOS devices (iPhone, iPod & iPad). Macs are not affected. Some users have reported that keeping the app running in the background is still not getting push, but most say that this works for them.

I got it!

I had a mac.com account before porting to me.com and moved me.com to icloud. In my iphone I noticed that in icloud settings I had as account my @mac.com. I deleted all in my iphone, I set to no "keeping in my iphone" anything... I add a new icloud account and set my old blablabla@mac.com as blablabla@me.com and it works. Push mail its working right now without having mail running in background (push mail it never worked for me before after update to ios 5).

Hope this would be helpfull to all of yours that ported from mac.com to me.com to icloud.

Cheers

Same problem here. Come on Apple, this is supposed to "just work". So far this weekend I've not been too impressed.

I closed the mail app in the background. Then changed it to fetch and received an email that way. Then closed the app in the background again, changed it back to Push, and then it seems to be working again.

Just need to remember to keep it running in the background then until Apple get there finger out.

"Settings" --> "Mail, Contacts, Calendar" --> "Fetch New Data" (here you have to turn on "Push" or select a Fetch schedule) --> "Advanced" --> "iCloud" --> select Push or Fetch

"Settings" --> "Notifications" --> "Mail" turn on Notification Center and configure what you like

My push mail is working after these settings in both iPad 2 & iPhone 4 on iOS 5

now try this.. kill your mail app so that its not running in the background and then send your'self and email from another client and see if its pushed. it should not work

try this as

spirou781 mentioned about

please do the following test:

(1) close all apps in the background

(2) restart your iOS 5 device

(3) send an e-mail from another client

(4) waiting for push mail

--> it should work at this time (there is no mail.app in the background)

(5) now open the mail.app on your iOS 5 device, and send it to the background

(6) send an e-mail from another client again

(7) waiting for push mail

--> it works (with the mail.app in the background)

(8) now close the mail.app completely (kill the app from running in the background)

(9) send an e-mail from another client again

(7) waiting for push mail

--> it doesn't work

It seems to me, that killing the mail.app from the background in iOS 5 the process which receives the pushed e-mails is also killed.

It works o.O

With one account, mails did not push after opening mail.app and closing it again.

Now I've created a second account just for testing. Your method definetly works, even after closing mail.app again.

This is nowhere near 'just working', but it is a workaround for now.

Still working after several hours and many test mails from different accounts.

I don't know what causes this behaviour, but it looks like a software problem to me (btw it also did not push during the beta time on my iPhone, but I hoped it would work in the GM).

I created a second Apple ID and set it up for an iCloud Mail adress (@me.com).

To do so, I went into setitngs, E-Mail, add account, iCloud and entered my just created Apple ID and typed in a random name because I will never use this adress anyway.

Now I have two iCloud accounts, but the second one can not be used for backup, Find my iPhone etc., only for Mail, Notes and those other things.

Then I turned push off and on again, and since my Mails have been pushing just fine.

I have turned everything off for the new account except mail, cause I turned it off in the beginning and still no push, so I think it's about having 2 Mail accounts, but I can't tell if it must be iCloud or any adress.

I hope it works for you guys, too! Good luck!
