Around midday today, I started the iOS5 download to my iPad, so I left it at home. When I returned, the download had failed. Now, starting all over, the current download for iOS5 is 2 hours (down from the initial estimate of 5...which is expected), but I'm also downloading 888MB for the Lion 10.7.2 which has iCloud support.
Here's MY conundrum:
I'm willing to wait, but as a long time $100/year subscriber to MobileMe, the migration from MobileMe to iCloud seems rather ugly from the posts here. I also still have two iPhones to update...god help me.
I never really used MobileMe for anything much more than sharing 10 or 12 files and mostly for finding my iOS devices. I'm wondering if it's really worth bothering with iCloud, since Google Mail is my primary email and Google Calendar is my primary calendar. I also have an Apple ID that is based on my Gmail account and of course, I have a @me.com email (which I rarely use), but which was mandatory for MobileMe. From the email I received from Apple about MobileMe going away and my @me.com email going away, I really have no clue what I should use for "Apple ID" for iCloud or even if there is any real point to migrating to iCloud (i.e., just letting my MobileMe content just evaporate because it exists on my Mac anyway).
Any suggestions about whether there's enough value added by iCloud to bother with the frustration I see here? I certainly can see that if I continue and use iCloud, I should wait until the demand slacks.
