Oh I forgot to say you may need to add 192.168.1.3 to allowed zone of your antivirus firewall. do that if you can sync with firewall disabled but cant if enabled.
I found the solution.
I ran wireshark and monitored packets. after running ping and looking at firewall log I realized that the problem arises from Bonjour ( inbuilt) . In fact connection as adhoc is Bonjour's job which is not well compatible with Windows. on the other hand Windows DHCP config can't see the iPhone.
You need to configure IP address manually.
For solution follow these steps:
1-Open Network and sharing > find your Wifi connection > Properties
2- Roll down to Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
3- click on properties
4- tick " Use the Following IP address"
5- let's assume your router IP is 192.168.1.1 ( in most cases is the same). Change these settings:
IP address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
preferred DNS server: 192.168.1.1
6- check iPhone IP address: in your iPhone : setting>wifi> your wifi name > in DHCP check IP address ( in most cases it is 192.168.1.3 . if so everything is OK. ( it must be between 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.254)
7- connect iPhone to USB port and make a sync.
8- restart both iPhone and PC
9- after restart, make sure that iTunes is open and iPhone IS NOT ASLEEP ( apple has designed iPhone not to communicate as adhoc for battery saving , so push Home button and slide to turn it on)
10 wait for 1-2 minutes, your device will appear in iTunes
Hello,
It's 1 of 100 suggestions that I have seen here. Thank you but I'm not willing to go through all of this stuff and most other users are not either. Apple needs to fix this. I'm not spending hours of my day with all of these Herculean strategies to get the function to work. Seriously guys...really?:/
Thank you for your comment.
I just wanted to be of help and nothing else.
I thought this may be useful for someone. In fact we should accept that iPhone is Mac based and may have some defects during working with Windows. This issue is mostly related to Windows Firewall.
I agree with you that we have paid money to Apple and not Microsoft for iPhone 4s but at this time we have just two ways: 1- try to find solutions and help each other until Apple corrects everything or 2- wait until then.
Here I have another solution that "MAY be" useful:
restart PC and after connection to wifi make iPhone awake and "THEN" open the iTunes ( make sure it doesnt open before connection and make sure iPhone is on and awake when you want to open iTunes) . So it is simple ; just follow these steps:
********
reastart PC > connect to WiFi > make iPhone awake > run iTunes
*******
this may cause PC find DNS correctly and connects via DHCP
I hope this be of help.
I'VE GOT IT!
Like me, you've probably all done everything right but there's one thing I just found that also needs to be done.
Go to itunes preferences and click on the "devices" icon. It will show your device backups and there's a line below that says, "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically", if this is checked, UNCHECK IT!
I'm not sure if this is checked by default or if I checked it 3 years ago when I was annoyed that my device started syncing every time I plugged it in.
I plugged my device in to the wall and presto, it started syncing!
Hope this works for you too.
A simple way:
>> when your iPhone is awake , run the iTunes and restart wifi connection to PC ( from righ lower corner of desktop )
this resets DHCP . I tried it many many times and works well
***** New update availabe*******
some hours age, a new version of iTunes came out. this new version has corrected the issue.
just install it .
* DONT FORGET to tick " sync with this iphone ... " again after updating.
* connect via USB and make a complete sync.
* without ejecting, just unplug.
* restart iTunes
* DONT FORGET that iPhine just syncs when awake ( the screen must be active for start, but during sycing it can be inactive)
* If in some occasion it fails to find device , simply restart your wifi in PC ( right lower corner of desktop> disconnect from router and reconnect)
Let me know if that helps
Did this and it didn't change anything with my iPhone 3gs connecting to iTunes through wi-fi. I still can't get it to work.
I have no great insights to offer here (there's probably more than enough already), but after I'd totally given up on this ever working, I found the other day that it just worked! I launched iTunes and there was my phone sitting in the Devices panel - connected wirelessly. Syncing worked fine and does so consistently. The only real change I can track is the update to iOS 5.01. I know.....loads of you are on 5.01 and it makes no darn difference. What can I say - just sharing my "truth".
EDIT - I have not updated to the latest iTunes.
I think mine is a problem with my router. Apparently my router has a problem which blocks multicast packets between wifi and hardwired devices... It's a known issue with my router which was corrected in a firmware update which is not available for my hardware revision...
If I find a way to test this, I will post my results.
I just solve this problem very easy: by enabling Multicast on my router (D-Link DIR-655). Booth of my devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) appear now in iTunes immediately after rooter rebooting.
My config is: Windows 7 64 bit, iTunes 10.5.1.42, iOS 5.0.1
Thank you WInterSunRav.
I did the change to my D-Link router and now everything is fine. I dont need to reboot my wifi connection anymore!!!
Thanks a lot.
( D-Link > Interface setup > LAN > Multicast to IGP v1)
Just one more issue:
After changing router LAN setting to Multicast dont forget when runnig iTunes, your iPhone MUST BE AWAKE.
It finally worked !!! windows 7 64bit
make the simple insturctions before unplug do these steps its simple
1- press alt- shift- esc go to process find appleDeviceService
2 right click on it then open location u will find it as .exe double click it then cmd will open and close
3 then unplug usb cable then REBOOT your device it should be worked
note if u have avg internet security make sure to make the firewall option allow all
hope this will help sry for my bad english
FIXED! in my case the problem was MS upload center (the orange arrow in the tray bar) which comes with office 2010. As soon as I killed the process (MsSync) the iphone could see the shared itunes libraries and wifi sync started to work!
hope it helps!
