Is it really just that busy? I have been trying to downlod the IOS 5 software and it has been stuck on Contacting The iPhone Software Update Server for hours. Upgraded to iTunes 10.5, rebooted, turned off Firewall, Hammered the Update button, etc. I don't know what to do.
iTunes-OTHER, Mac OS X (10.7.1)

Went to a coffee shop and used their free wifi - no problems!🙂
Im having the same problem with all iOS devices and Apple tv. Called Apple and they said the server is fine and they have had no problems reported. Told the chap to clean his eyes and look on here. Massive Apple fail!

Also, the Google DNS servers work great for upgrading your Apple TV if you have a Micro/USB cable. (like the one that came with your Kindle) Plug it in and choose Restore. (use only this cable. Don't have power to the ATV while upgrading) You are soon running the new software for ATV. Cool new menus! Of course you will have to re-enter all information again so keep that WiFi password and Apple login handy.

That worked. A pity some of us have to go to those ends. Wonder if we will ever know why?
I had to reset DNS on router.
These settings worked for me in NZ:

Changing my DNS server to Google worked for me too!! Thanks for the info! Not sure what the heck that changes, but I'm happy to be able to update my iPhone! 😀
