IOS 5 download stuck on contacting iPhone update server

Shufflethecards thank you! Changing the DNS settings on my mac to 8.8.8.8 has fixed this issue for me. I recommend this option to anybody with the same problem 🙂

I'm having this problem in the UK. Hope Apple fixes it soon. Some apps like keynote require iOS 5.1 so can't get those updates either. Very frustrating.

Hmm, lets see.

Problem: Nobody can connect to big corporate Apple servers because their DNS "can't find" the servers, even though it is a direct request from iTunes to an Apple server.

Solution: All the sheep change their DNS server settings to Google so now all is ok.

But now Goggle will have all of your future traffic routed through their servers. (Evil laugh time).

Updating today is not an end of the world thing, rerouting all of your traffic through Google servers giving them an unfair competitive advantage, well that could be.

From Hong Kong and 8.8.8.8 works like a charm!

Your theory made me laugh and truthfully, something similar crossed my mind, but switching to Google worked and cleared up another issue I was having ever since I purchased my Air, so I'm a happy little sheep.

Having the same problem here in New Zealand, using OTA just tries for a while then says error, through the imac it just remains stuck on contacting the iphone server update for hours, i have been trying for days now, very frustrating. i even rang apple and they said that they hadn't heard of this happening and that at a cost to me they could fix it over the phone???

I have tried multiple DNS servers that have been recommended with no luck. A got a friend to update her at home and she said it worked?? very weird, any other suggestions
