Photos gone after ios 5 update

Awesome, it worked! I was also a little hesitant about deleting the aforementioned files, but all my photos have been restored. Just wanted to add to the growing list of affirmations and say thanks for sharing!!

andrespibar and FishBulb - thank you both; you just saved me about a 1000 photos and videos. I had most backed up but not all. I really need to remember to back up before I update! 🙂

This worked for me.. had to plug back into the pc after rebooting and when i went to the camera roll all photos were back. THANK YOU!!

This might help you (it did for me):

Connect your iphone to a mac which is NOT updated with the latest lion update (oct 15th) and is NOT updated to ICloud.

Open Iphoto. Great change you're photo's wil appear, import them in iphoto!

thanks, but i have a PC with vista. i called apple yesterday & they said id have to pay someone to extract the files & that its no guarantee that the files could be restored to my phone. i asked him why i pay for apple support if youre telling me to pay someone else & he told me to email apple's feedback!! can you beleive that?? i lost everything on my phone, not just the photos & ive come to terms with not getting my contacts, texts, and all my apps back, but i know the photos are on the hard drive somewhere.

didn't work for me either, windows didn't ask to open anything. If I go back into iexplorer, these files are missing.

How do you do step 4- backup? I downloaded the iexplorer, and found the files but I dont see a way to back up? Am I missing something?

My problem is that the pictures on the camera roll vanished, I can take pictures but then when I choose the camera roll they are not there and it says its empty. I can see the picture in the lower right corner.

When I try to go into the Photos app it goes white and blanks back to the home screen? Any suggestions?

Did it all and it worked! Yay... now what do I do with the files I dragged onto my desktop? Do I need those?
