Delete single photos in photostream

Just a quick note: If Apple didn't currently intend Photo Stream to be consumed, they would not have offered it as a Screen Saver option on AppleTV.

As with so many, I look forward to the updated iffering that will enable individual photo removal.

Apple must fix this. The clearly is a gap in the application.

There is one way to delete from photo stream. But it is a little more work than just selecting a photo and saying delete.

1. Goto icloud.com login ito your account.

2. Goto account settings (advanced).

3. Reset photostream.

4. Turn off photostream from idevices, turn back on once you have dragged the photos that you do want in photosteam using iphoto. You will need to also turn off photostream on iphoto and turn it on again also (this is found in iphoto preferences).

Apple's problem is a lot more than just the deletion of a single photo from Photostream.

The entire big picture caused by both OS X Lion and ICloud is quite heart breaking, especially for many professionals who for years, depended on Apple's reliability.

Under the OS X Lion umbrella, its too busy saving copies of every click therefore it slows down resulting in many annoyances: unable to react to Space assignment quickly often showing the wrong program name that software is running; lost track of cursor command you have to click on the desktop to activate what the brushes are supposed to be doing; causing iPhoto to lose connection with the network... and many more.

Under the iCloud umbrella: Apple is still not committed to coming up front with their commitment to listen to its customers who want MobileMe gallery etc. back.

And on this Apple Support forum, you don't hear somebody stand up and say, "hi, I am from Apple, we heard you and we are doing this or that.."

So, all these issue will impact Apple's leadership position negatively. I feel sorry for Apple.

But then, we can only hope their marketing department works better with their PR department and their young engineers actually care about the long term reputation of the great company built by this great person.

I deleted the entire photostream very easily. On the iphone simply go to settings (might be in your utilities tab), go to icloud, scroll down to Photo Stream and simply turn it off. You will need to exit once in and out of your photo tab and POOF all of the photos in the photo stream are gone. To get the photo stream back - just go back to the icloud settings and turn it on.

I used to work for a non-Apple company in which a technical writer was summarily fired. She had included the following statement in a user manual: "this feature will be included in a future release." Why was that a firing offense? Because it contractually obligated the company to include the feature, even if it turned out to be superfluous or impossible to do. In fact, just writing the word "will" was a firing offense for a tech writer, if the document got out to the customer that way.

Apple does read these discussions, but they can't comment on them without referring to the future, and that means committing to A when they later discover that B is better.

This is such a glaring omission, I'm sure a fix will be included in a future release, but an Apple employee cannot ever say that.

Can't believe the amount of people on here throwing tantrums. If you don't like it, don't use it, or wait for it to be fixed. Life is too short to care that much. Apple owes no one anything. I look forward to the fix, but I am staying away from these boards, they make me lose faith in people.

Ha... no, Apple, like all businesses, owes their customers good products. They deliver in a big way 99% of the time. This time was a big miss. They're usually smarter than that, that's all.

i'm far from an expert, however, i went to iphoto, clicked on the photostream month with the bad photo, dragged the bad photo into the trash on the left column under 'recent' (or highlight it and click on 'move to trash' under 'photos' menu) then clicked on 'empty iphoto trash' under the iphoto menu.

it seemed to work. if i'm wrong, sorry. just trying to help.

I am even farther from being an expert. Just a struggling very recent WinXP emigree who fell in love with the MacAir hardware slowly making sense of Apple "Logic" and seeming inconsistancies. Your suggestion doesn't delete the photo from the photo stream. I have read this thread and played with it all and have come to the following tentative conclusions about how as a user to think about this:

- The photo stream can be thought of as a virtual SD card with a 1000 picture capacity. You clear and eject this virtual card by resetting streaming on and off, in both Icloud as described above, and in each supporting device.

- You always have the opportunity to delete a picture from say an Iphone before uploading it via photo stream. Just like you can delete an image from a camera before removing and processing an SD card.

- Iphoto is the tool to view the pictures on this virtual SD card, but the pictures are not saved permenently in the file system. They must be "exported" from Iphoto to a folder from iPhoto. The transition to Finder (and back) to export to a new folder is less than intuitive and slick IMHO.

- I think I understand that albums in Iphoto are just windows to the current photo stream and empty when photo stream is reset. So you must export to save the images you want.

The good news is that this view helps me make it all work. The bad news is that the actual process and user interface is far from the "it just works" image I have based on other positive experiences with the Apple architecture. I kind of see Lion as very promising but very much an inconsistent work in progress. But I am not yet ready to return to Windows.

It hasn't worked at all. All you have done is remove the photo from the iPhoto imported Event, e.g. 'Nov 2011 Photo Stream' as auto import is set to on.

You haven't removed it from Photostream.

I totally agree with most people on here. Apple need to fix this issue. I love all things Apple but not to be able to simply click and delete is crazy. I know you can get around by re-setting it, etc. At the end of the day it's a folder which as long as your the user you should be able to delete the picutres.

Can't belive a fix has not been done yet.

Come on Apple sort this out.
