I'm having the exact same issue. In my Message preferences it says "Verifying" next to my phone number for about a day, and then it changes to "Error". I've tried doing a full restore on the phone, and I've reset network settings as the instructions above say.
I've spoken to Apple and Verizon on the phone. First, apple told me to call Verizon and have them re-provision MMS and SMS on my account. They tried doing that to no avail. They then put Apple on the line who offered to exchange my phone for another.
It seems strange that there would be something so particularly wrong with my phone that it would cause this minute problem when everything else on the phone works fine and so many others are having the same problem.
Any thoughts?
problem.
Thanks!!! After speaking with Apple and Verizon and 2 days worth of trying, ur fix is now my gratitude!
Same problem.
Also have it with FaceTime. Phone number doesn't get verified only email.
I've tried practially everything!!!!!
Thx to jayeecordero...
To change the defult phone number in iMessage, you need to:
- Insert the new sim.
- Go to Settings > Messages>Turn off iMessage.
- Go to General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
- Once the iPhone is open.
- Go to Settings > Messages>Turn ON iMessage.
- This will recognize the new sim and have it verified.
Worked for me 🙂
Tried that before and still have iMessages and FaceTime stuck on verifying number.
Close the settings app completely then open it back up again. Then go back to iMessage setting and the phone number should work for iMessage.
pleeeeeeeeeeeeease someone help!!! have tried EVERYTHING and nothing works!
imessage only working through email (no option to even list a phone number) did everything possible and apple even replaced the phone. in the end i bought a new sim card from a completely different network provider. my number is now listed but greyed out and wont verify. im am losing the will to live at this stage and am inches away from smashing the phone with a hammer!!!!! any advice or ideas would be extremely grateful!!!
Same, same, same, same problem HERE!!!!!!!!!
It´s happening on my wife´s and my iPhone 4S.
Well I have tried everything on here numerous times and nothing worked. BUT I have stumbled across another solution that finally worked for me!!
Turn off iMessages if not already. Turn on iMessages and DO NOT hit use apple ID. It will eventually sign in using your ph no and it solves everything. Hope this helps some.
Still can´t get it to work for me!!
not sure if it works for everybody but go to Setting>General and set date and time to automatic
The jayeecordero-sollution (as quoted by Milevski), worked for me on both the iMessage- and Facetime problem. Had to give Facetime a minute or two though... Thanks! 🙂
I am having a similar problem, except it varifies it and then afterwards says error and makes it unable for me to click on it, i have tried resetting it, getting a new sim card turning off and on imessage, but nothing works i dont know what to do it has been like this fo a month or so now what do i do?
It worked for me with jayeecordero on top. Thanks! Tried many suggestion, finally this one worked. I switch from Indosat to Telkomsel provider of Indonesia. And I also noticed that my problem of 3G sign (though I am sure I'm in the coverage) didn't kick in after leaving wifi hotspot is now gone. Previously with Indosat network, I must manually switch off and on the 3G toggle in Setting >General>Network every time. Otherwise 3G won't kick in. Now that problem doesn't happen with Telkomsel network. I'm on iPhone 4S IOS 5.1.1.
Hi, I just thought I would add to this. I had the same problem- first iMessage, FaceTime & Push Notifications would not work at all. Then I installed SAM (though jailbreaking & installing cydia) & followed the above steps on this site http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/fix-imessage-facetime-push-notifications-on- hacktivated-iphone-4-3gs/
After, it was successful, although in iMessage & FaceTime settings, my phone number was stuck on 'verifying'. Tried switching both iMessage & FaceTime on & off several times, and reset network settings, but would not fix my problem. So then I decided it might have been something to do with a setting within the SAM application. The thing that fixed my problem altogether, was by simply selecting 'auto-detect' in the 'method' part of SAM. So I would strongly suggest selecting auto-detect not manual or any of the others under the method setting if your phone is still not working.
Hope this helps a few people! 🙂
I'll just throw this suggestion out there, Apple says your iPhone needs to be connected to a cellular network, this fixed the problem for me because at the time my phone had run out of credit.
I feel like Apple are really tripping up lately, with terrible iPhone 5, iOS6, Maps and now this over complex iMessage.
There's no way this is going to be a success if it's this complex to set up.
Steve Jobs promised us, "It just works"........
