All it says is verifying number, and as a result it doesn't work

I followed all of the steps but it didn't work. It will only let me add a new email and won't let me remove the email that's in there for iMessage. I can't even click on my phone number in iMessage settings because it's gray and has a loading symbol next to it. I tried turning iMessage off and on, Facetime, and tried restarting the phone. Nothing's working.

Try # 2 onwards.

To change the defult phone number in iMessage, you need to:

  1. Insert the new sim.
  2. Go to Settings > Messages>Turn off iMessage.
  3. Go to General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  4. Once the iPhone is open.
  5. Go to Settings > Messages>Turn ON iMessage.
  6. This will recognize the new sim and have it verified.

I hope this helps. I just did it like 5 mins. ago

I'm having the exact same issue. In my Message preferences it says "Verifying" next to my phone number for about a day, and then it changes to "Error". I've tried doing a full restore on the phone, and I've reset network settings as the instructions above say.

I've spoken to Apple and Verizon on the phone. First, apple told me to call Verizon and have them re-provision MMS and SMS on my account. They tried doing that to no avail. They then put Apple on the line who offered to exchange my phone for another.

It seems strange that there would be something so particularly wrong with my phone that it would cause this minute problem when everything else on the phone works fine and so many others are having the same problem.

Any thoughts?

OK...I've fixed my issue:

Go to: Settings>iMessage> switch off.

Go to: Settings>Facetime> switch off.

I noticed that in: Settings>Phone> that "My number" was unknown (go check yours now)

When I tried to click on the "Unknown" to input the number...it would not allow me to.

Go to: Settings>Airplane mode> Turn off. Wait a moment, then switch back on and go back to: Settings>Phone>

You should be allowed to input your number including country code.

Check to see if "My Number" has been updated.

Go to: Settings>iMessage> switch back on.

Go to: Settings>Facetime> switch back on.

Phone number is verified in both Facetime and iMessage.

Hope it works for you!

Hey i was having the same problem. After resetting all my settings i was stuck, until i went to my imessage settings. Then i had selected "Use apple iD for imessage" and signed out. After that the only adress i could be reached at was my phone number. Let me know if this resolved your problem.

When i first started using imessage, it was connected using my phone number. By mistake, i checked the imessage option off and when i turned it back on it does not verify my number. I can only use an e-mail address. i have reseted the network settings and iphone but it is still the same. i've tried all available solutions but nothing works.

I am still stuck 😟. I completely reset the phone. I tried the turning off and turning on thing too. Nothing worked. I can use imessage with my apple ID (facetime too) but My old number is stuck in there and it keeps saying "verifying". Also, when I put both facetime and imessage on it says "waiting for activation" and NOTHING happens...I'm starting to regret the switch to apple...blackberry was waaaay easier...

I'll appreciate any help I can get on this.
