No gestures for iPad 1 in iOS 5? Apple, are you kidding us?!

This is not fair.

This disgusts me.

My iPad 1 has a defective Home button, so it is extremely frustrating to use without multi-touch gestures. I have successfully been using the multi-touch gestures for months now, so any claim that they can't work on an iPad 1 is a preposterous lie.

Apple has made me very mad here. If this is how they support me, they can be certain I will never purchase another iPad again.

Totally agree - I could live with preannounce on IOS 5 saying "we decided, for marketing reasons, that some parts of the upgrade would not be available on earlier devices ...".

What I cant stand is the belief that they can do whatever they want and the "dumb disciples" will keep following along. Well some might, but not me. I'll be keeping and using my iPad 1, but it'll be a cold day in **** before before I buy any more stuff from Apple.

The original iPad did not have multi gesture capability unless you were a developer. At least that was what I always thought. It never worked on mine. Developers are privacy to some "test" features that may or not make the final iOS for the rest of us.

I too am disappointed - mainly because of the way that Apple promotes this stuff. If the feature is only for the one derive, then specific it. On the other hand, I suppose that they can claim that they never stated flat out that it would work across the board.

It looks like Apple updated their website to say Multitasking Gestures on iPad 2.

Send something similar (or paste this) to Apple.

Dear Apple,

You clearly stated that iPad would have Multitasking Gestures. I have an iPad. The Multitasking Gestures are not included in the iOS 5 as you promised. You did not specify that it would only be an iPad 2 functionality until the day after iOS 5 was released. Since you have not made any public comments I am using your "feedback" to voice my concern.

I would like to see Multitasking Gestures on iPad 1.

Thank you!

just wondering.... does your iPad 1 do the multitask gestures smoothly no matter the amount of apps opened?

does it do the pinch to close app gesture as well?

The app-switching gesture isn't 100%, but I don't use that one, and it's a bit useless.

The multi-task bar and return to home screen gestures work beautifully, absolutely.

hmmm... I would have to disagree with you about "they can claim that they never stated flat out that it would work across the board" and agree with Nicksafanboy's comment on this... except for his/her nasty comment at the end.

Apple said Multitasking Gestures on iPad. I have an iPad. Does it mean that I do not have an iPad because I do not have Gestures? Of course not. I do in fact have an iPad. I do not have Gestures like Apple promised.

It is odd that Apple hasn't made a public comment about this issue yet. They obviously know that there was a mistake made and they need to address it. How or when might be a little more complicated than you and I are aware of. To simply change the website to include a "2" after iPad and not make any other comment or apology would definitely be a cop-out.

It is pure conjecture for anyone of us outside of the decision makers at Apple (people in "the know") to believe this issue was for marketing reasons. Maybe it was a software concern... maybe it was for marketing reasons. Unless you are in the team at Apple who really does know, then I suggest not jumping to conclusions, take a deep breath and remember that things do not always go as planned!

Decisions are sometimes very complicated and the outcome can be complicated as well. I have made what I thought to be undeniably the best possible decisions only for the outcomes to be worst than I could have possibly imagined. I hate when that happens! I sincerely doubt that Apple is taking any of this lightly. Chances are they are doing the best they can just like you and I.

As I stated at the beginning of this post, Apple definitely made a mistake. Maybe give it a few days, and see what happens before you start blasting Apple.

P.S.

Even though it might be cathartic for you, threats and cussing on a public forum just make you seem illiterate and insignificant. Put your concerns out there in an influential way. Post here AND write Apple.
