No gestures for iPad 1 in iOS 5? Apple, are you kidding us?!

I agree. The multi-touch gestures was one of the best features in 4.3 for the ipad1. Why take it away? The feature worked very well.

This is simply insane for the update that is supposed to make the iPad even more touchy feely. Disappointed. Well, hope competition capitilizes on this and other mistakes that will keep coming (as it seems apparent from the events of today).

I Agree. Apple made me mad by updating process, which didn't work (error 3200). And now this? I looked forward to this feature, but it's available for iPad 2 only? I will consider very carefully, if I will buy iPad 3. Apple thumbs down.

I upgraded my personal original iPad to 5.0 trusting this functionality would continue to work(1). This is really disappointing since there is no reason why it would not work in the original iPad, it worked perfectly fine in 4.3.X when being a developer.

I worship apple products but it is really unpleasant when there are features that are being removed especially when it is my favourite feature.

Since my Home button is damaged, my iPad becames pretty much unusable now.

Please, reconsider this decision, it is a very bad marketing decision!

You do not have the A5 processor so it will not work. You should probably just upgrade to the ipad2.

That's not correct sportj86, I have been running the multi-touch gestures on my original iPad for some time now under 4.3.X so clearly it does work! In fact as I have not upgraded to iOS 5 on my iPad (and won't be because of this) I still have it working on an iPad 1 sat right next to me now!

Apple released the new xcode 4.2. Can anyone that upgraded to IOS5 check if it can be enabled like in the past? I don't want to upgrade mine to find out it doesn't.

that is a developers only feature which is not included in the new version...ipad 2 for the win

I'm in agreement with everyone, the iPad 1 can run the multitouch gestures without any problems. Apple is essentially falsely advertising a feature without any disclaimer mentioning that multitouch gestures only work on iPad 2. Leave feedback with Apple. http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

They should've at least highlighted that on the iOS 5 launch page. It just says iPad, generally speaking.

A bit of perspective - the multitouch gestures were never a "proper" feature of IOS 4.3, they were more of an experimental one. This likely means they were either removed for performance reasons on the iPad 1, or this is a bug... If its a bug, it will get fixed. If not, it's surely not the end of the world!

This is going to build a lot of bad blood with the iPad 1G customers. Anyone seen an official answer from Apple on the matter?
