Absolutely no idea but my iphone has been stuck on sync all night with step 4 downloading safe browsing data. I have no idea how to stop and start again with it!
Yeah, I saw that as well. I would certainly like to know what this is, and what it means...
I couldn't sync my iPhone 3GS, as soon as it reached "safe safari browsing" it would cancel the sync and nothing got through. I don't know why, but I went into Settings-Safari-Advanced-Website Data and removed all website data. It synced flawlessly. God knows why!
Here is the answer (I think):

Me too. After upgrading to iOS 5 I keep seeing the "Downloading Safari safe browsing data" message even though neither of my Safaris (on MacBook Pro running on OS X 10.7.2 or iPhone running on iOS 5, with iTunes 10.5) are on Safe Browsing mode. I did previously and briefly turn on safe browsing on my iPhone's Safari app to test it but then turned it off shortly thereafter. That was about a week ago. But still.
My ipod touch 4g synced fine, but I still would like to know what that is. I have never seen a message saying anything about browser data.
Thank you for the link. It's about having "Fraud Warning" set to ON, which I do. And here I was all along thinking the LED display in iTunes had to do with having the browser set to Safe Browsing. Not so.
Go on your iPod to
SETTINGS > SAFARI > FRAUD WARNING and it its on, turn it off. Then go to ADVANCED > WEBSITE DATA click edit, scroll to the bottom and click remove all wesite data and your ready to go 😉

Thanks jackb123. This has been annoying me for some time. Never even noticed that setting before. I wonder how long ago apple implemented this?
Got rid of the downloading safari safe browsing data but still will not sync
Thank you that fixed my problem!!
