Who said anything about my music being illegal?! I have every single CD I uploaded to my iTunes account and I don't get any money back since it was my music. If you would have read the post correctly you wouldn't have said that. I don't have the time to sit at my computer for the next year popping in 1 CD at a time uploading each song I want rather than the entire CD. There are songs I don't want to listen to and others I do if this helps draw a clearer picture. I just want my data back!! And I should have every right to be mad at Apple. They make mistakes too but you would think 1 just ONE simple update would have wiped out EVERYTHING!
irnchriz, the only BS here is in your post.
That's really genius... only sell phones to computer techies.
Apple once had a reputation for logical, intuitive and elegantly simple softeware.
However, their religious dedication to proprietary possession of their customers data, leads to really poor judgement and confusing, ineffective and overly complicated systems.
Why are people forced to go through, a bl**ody music store to transfer images and documents, etc?
Why are everyday users at risk of loosing all their content, simply because they are updating their firmware?
Noting your glee and amusement at customer's problems and distress presented here, I wonder if you work for Apple?
There's a major disfunction here and its not the customer.
If your phone is backed up properly you wont loose anything, just restore it. All Smartphones can crash as well as computers so thats why you back up your information, if you loose that info its your fault for not making sure what is precious to you is safe. Updates do cause issues now and then, but the small amount of people posting here against the tens of millions of people who have working devices shows there is no major problems. As to using iTunes, if you do not like using this software and have issue with your iPhone sell it and buy something more suitable for your needs. Blaming Apple or a customers is pointless. Back your phone up, hope all goes well if not you have something to restore from, happy days.
I own a PC. Apple offers products that cater to non-Mac users also. Should I just blame myself and have the mentality that when something doesn't work to just ignore it and move on or do something about it. This is a world where people steal from you! And monopolize on Everything! I'm not one to just roll over and not learn from my mistakes. You have me mixed up with someone else because I stand for what I sell and believe in. If you would like to be a little more sympathetic with my situation, try this for example: ask someone who you know you can trust, to come over to do an Apple iTunes update and without asking them how much do they know about Apple iTunes tell them that you trust it shouldn't be a problem. Later you get home to find out that your music data is gone. Who do you blame? Hmmm....that's too hard for some people to answer because you hide behind lies and manipulations. Sad. I blame Apple! Yes Apple! I don't worship Apple! I like their products but the update they provided. Fix the update!!! I have an iPad2 and 4 iPhones. Should I trust that everything will be ok on my next updates? Meetings should be more thorough when passing the update approvals guys! Not nice!
An update to the device may very well cause the data to be wiped from it but no way whatsoever will it delete your iTunes library. Worst case you restore the device.
If your iTunes library was wiped then it was you who did so.
Your phone is not a permenant storage device and you should also make sure that your iTunes library on your pc is also backed up to an external device or cloud service.
If you don't have backups then Again, that's your issue and no one else's.
This is what is occurring, although a backup is made prior to upgrading the firmware, when the firmware is upgraded it deletes any backup that was made directly prior to it. There is no backup to restore the device from that is current only old backups if they are present. Because of this any purchases or downloads that were made in between the two backups are not there. And many people delete their prio backups to save room on the PC. Because of this they have nothing to restore from.
You seem like an intelligent fellow. Because of that, I don't understand why you have to be condescending and cocky. But then again maybe that's because you only seem like intelligent fellow...
Thanks to all who are on the same page as I am. I appreciate smart people who care about others instead of just themselves. People who haven't read ALL the previous posts I've made, shouldn't leave any opinions. Those who don't know how to speak English, please move on to another topic, this apparently isn't going anywhere and neither will you. Thank you so much Apple, I know you will have a very nice day, year and life. Your a great role model!
i googled 'updating iphone 4 version 5.1.1 deletes photos?'
i can't really find an answer so i came across this and read some answers. Some are saying the pictures get deleted too. Just to make sure i'm syncing and copying ALL my photos like the whole 2088 of them to my computer (which only has like 8.51GB data left in it.. lol). Is there an easier way to do this? My point is, will the update delete like everything and restore back into its original settings as if you bought a new iphone e.g. new wallpaper, asks you what time, country you are in, etc.
please help. x
I have to add another "Deleted Backup" incident. Attempted to upgrade a friend's phone, backed up before the iOS 5 upgrade, the upgrade itself backed up again. The upgrade left his contacts deleted. In an attempt to get them back, I restored the phone. No problem I thought, I have multiple back ups. Nope. Somehow and through no direct action on my part, all the previous backups (including one from a few minutes before) were gone. I even tried using Data Rescue III to see if I could retrieve them. No go. We luckily had an April backup, otherwise he would have lost everything. Still, he lost months of texts and pictures.
Whatever the process, Apple should have figured out by now NOT to delete previous backups, or at least move them to another location, just in case. This is intensely frustrating and embarrasing.
