Contacts missing after IOS 5 update

I was having this same problem but luckily my friend who does IT on Macs was here and figured it out.

My problem was that I had been storing all my contacts on my old iPhone and not syncing them to my computer.

He connected my old phone, synced the contacts on my phone with my computer, which is already set up to sync with gmail I think, and then my contacts showed up. We also turned off iCloud on the old iPhone (I hadn't set it up on the new one yet.) and I think there's a good chance that's also causing problems so I would still turn that off before syncing the phone to the computer. Hope that helps.

For me , i Just Turn Off contact on iCloud, and Keep Contact. Then i get back my contact already 🙂

Then just Turn it On again, everything fine for me 🙂

I just imported the contacts from the sim card. Quite a relief.....

I goot my contacts back but the icon for contacts is gone they are available only in telephone contacts.

None of the methods help on my 3gs... any other solutions? HELP!

I would call apple support or go to an apple store

if one is nearby. Good luck.

Going into messages and editing a surname has worked for me! All contacts back 🙂

Help! I am trying to follow your instructions. I have turned everything off under iCloud settings, but I don't see "inactive".

Try the remedy for missing contacs that

was explained earlier.

1. Open any text already on your phone.

2. Scroll to top, tap edit, change one letter in persons name.

3. Tap home button.

4. Open your contac app

5. Hopefully your contacs appear.

6. Remember to fix the name you changed.

I know the above, sounds silly but it actually

worked for me.

i was going crazy but the just changing the name on a text message worked for me and brought all my contacts back... thanks a million! i love my iPhone 3GS!!
