I hope someone can help me. I have updated my imac and my ios devices for the icloud. The calendar is working great. The problem I am having is that my address book had been duplicated. Everyone of my contacts are in twice (only on my imac). All my other devices are singular entries. Any thoughts on this?

I think it might be to do with Mobileme, also syncing your contacts with your address book, because you've now set up iCloud to sync your contacts as well, presumably.
I made a lot of assumptions there, like that you have MobileMe, and that you sync your contatcs xD
I did a quick test, and removed iCloud from syncing contacts and my duplicate contacts disappeared. now to get it so as to delete the Mobileme ones. (I've already tried by removing MM)
I did have Mobile Me, but why wouldn't it dupe on my ios systems too? There has to be something that I am missing that needs to be unchecked or something. I disabled my Mobile Me account after loading the iCloud.
Thank you!! I disconnected iCloud and had them delete the contacts when disconnected. When I turned it back on, it asked if I wanted to merge the contacts. So far, that seemed to fix it. Still with singular contacts. Thanks again!!!

Ok, so I thought I had fixed this problem, guess not. I have updated my os to 10.7.2 and installed the ios5 on my ios devices. The ios devises and icloud are working great. My problems is with the address book and it has duplicated all my cards so I have twice as many contacts now. In addition, I have additional blank birthdays on my calendar. I use to have Mobile Me and I turned that off. I did try and turn off icloud and delete everything in my address book and then re-started icould address. It worked to eliminate the duplicated cards for about 5 minutes. Then came the blank birthday events on my calendar. Any ideas?
The problem is you're viewing two accounts in Address Book, 'On My Mac' & 'iCloud'. Select 'Groups' from the View menu and you'll see the two accounts. You can also go to preferences and set iCloud as the default account. I have yet to determine if it's neccessary to have the contacts in both accounts or if we can delete them from 'On My Mac'.
I deleted all groups and contacts in the 'On My Mac' account without any consequences. Everything appears normal.
I attempted to delete via address book>preferences>accounts. When I highlight the "On My Mac", it won't allow me to delete. I looked in groups, but all I saw were the groups I established ex; friends, family, work ect. Is there another way?
You can't delete the On My Mac account but it'll disappear once all the contacts and groups are deleted. Make sure they're all duplicated in the iCloud account before deleting.
When I go to the view menu and select Groups, I see all my groups and they're separated by account, a set of groups for On My Mac and a set or groups for iCloud. If you aren't seeing the multiple accounts then there could be a different issue.

Thanks @jkerver. This solved my issue, although I found out that by doing this, the address book on my mac won't sync with Google address book anymore, as described here.
Well I also had this issue and did what all (before even seeing the responses. Well the other added issue of duplication is if one having outlook for Mac and if that is set to synch with the address book, it will reduplicate the names again and the on my mac contacts get filled again. This means that sync services with outlook and icloud will always cause duplication. I hope some one will have a solution to have outlook synch with icloud as a second option and not with just my computer.
Sync Outlook contacts to Address book then Address book will sync via iCloud.
Select the iOS device in iTunes and uncheck Sync with Outlook.
You can pretty much ignore Address book on the Mac and just use Outlook contacts.
I must be dense ... how do I make iCloud the default account ... except by making it first in the list?? THX
